Biography

Has been a big part of the Aggies defense over the previous three seasons…Before his career is over, he could rank among the top five tacklers in school history…Has more career tackles than any other Aggie on the roster…Was named to the preseason All-MEAC second team in 2009…Named to the 2008 preseason MEAC all-conference team...Started his career as a middle linebacker, but midway through his junior season, he moved to the outside…Thornton has also played a major factor on the Aggies special teams…Earned the team award for Outstanding Linebacker two seasons in a row…Earned team Defensive MVP honors in 2007 …Was the team Rookie of the Year in 2006…After leading the Aggies in tackles his first two seasons, he was second in 2008…Comes into the Aggies fall camp as the No. 1 linebacker on the strong side…Coaches love his tenaciousness and his desire to constantly be around he football…They also believe he is ready to take his game to the next level this season…In 33 games played, has made 221 tackles with 17 ½ of those tackles for loss…Has also forced and recovered three fumbles, and he has broken up 10 passes…Has shown his durability through the years, having missed only one game in his career, making 33 starts in the 34 games the Aggies have played since he arrived…JUNIOR (2008): Played in 11 games with 11 starts…Made 76 tackles with 7 ½ stops behind the line of scrimmage and four pass breakups…Recorded double-figure tackles four times during the season…Opened the season with 11 tackles, two pass breakups and one recovered fumble in a 44-12 win over a school from his hometown – Johnson C. Smith…Returned the next week against Winston-Salem State and made 11 more tackles with 3 ½ tackles for loss, including a jarring hit in the final minutes that helped the Aggies defeat the Rams 14-8…Recorded 11 tackles, one for loss in a loss to Coastal Carolina on Sept. 27…SOPHOMORE (2007): Played in 11 games with 11 starts…Led the team in tackles with 82 tackles with 43 of them coming as solo stops…Also led the team in tackles for loss with 8 ½ … Ranked eighth in the conference in tackles per game (7.5)…Forced two fumbles on the season to rank seventh in the conference…Also recovered a fumble and broke up three passes…Had an outstanding start to the season when he made 12 tackles, three behind the line of scrimmage, against Winston-Salem State on Sept. 1…Stopped the Rams for a 1-yard loss on the first play of the game…He also stopped the Rams for a 1-yard loss on a pass play that forced a punt…Made eight stops against N.C.
