Biography

Has been a strong ace for the Aggies throughout his career … Had his senior season cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic … Will get to complete his senior season as the NCAA made the decision to give school’s the option to bring their seniors back for springs sports only … Has tremendous accuracy and great movement on all his pitches … Has made 49 appearances with 43 starts in his career … Has a career 16-14 record with a 4.13 ERA in 246.1 innings pitched … Has 145 career strikeouts with 61 walks.

2020 Season: His senior season was canceled early because of the COVID-19 pandemic … Before the season ended, made four appearances with four starts … Named preseason pitcher of the year by the MEAC while also earning first-team preseason All-MEAC honors …  Finished the season with a 1-2 record with a 1.78 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched … Posted 20 strikeouts and walked just seven … Opponents hit only .114 against him during the season … Ranked first in the MEAC and 29th in the nation in games started … Ranked seventh in the MEAC in ERA … Ranked second in the MEAC in innings pitched … Ranked fourth in the league in batters striking out looking (7) … Defeated a Power Five school for the second time in his career as he went seven innings giving up one run and six hits while striking out eight in the Aggies 2-1 win over Boston College on Feb. 14 … It was his first win since March 26, 2019 which was over another Power Five school in the University of South Carolina.

2019 Season: Earned preseason first-team All-MEAC honors … Made 15 appearances and 14 starts during his junior season … Finished the season 4-5 with a 3.22 ERA in 81 innings pitched … Helped the Aggies win the MEAC Southern Division title for the second straight season … Posted 46 strikeouts and only 13 walks … Ranked ninth in the MEAC and 119th in the nation in complete games (1) … Ranked fourth in the league and 164th nationally in ERA … Ranked second in the conference and 142nd nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.54) … Was first in the MEAC and 22nd nationally in walks allowed per nine innings (1.44) … Ranked eighth in the conference in innings pitched … Was fourth in the league in games started … Pitched six scoreless innings while giving up only three hits and striking out four to improve to 1-0 on the season as the Aggies defeated Niagara 6-0 on Feb. 17 at War Memorial Stadium … Improved to 2-0 on the season by going seven innings and giving up seven hits and three runs while striking out three as the Aggies defeated Northern Kentucky 4-3 on Feb. 24 … Went to 3-0 on the season with his second career win over the Charlotte 49ers as he went all nine innings giving up seven hits and no runs while striking out two in the Aggies 2-0 win at Charlotte on March 3 … Led the Aggies to one of the biggest wins in program history as the Aggies defeated perennial collegiate baseball power South Carolina 2-0 on March 26 at USC … In the game, Johnson pitched five scoreless innings while giving up only three hits and striking out as he improved to 4-1 on the season.

2018 Season: Had a breakout season as a sophomore … Made 14 appearances and 13 starts as a weekend starter for the Aggies … Finished the season 7-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 75.1 innings pitched … Earned first-team All-MEAC honors for his terrific season … Helped the Aggies win the 2018 MEAC championship in the process … Posted 43 strikeouts and 22 walks … Ranked eighth in the conference in ERA and innings pitched … Ranked second in the league and 126th in the nation in wins … Was tied for seventh in the league in games started … Picked off three runners during the season to rank seventh in the MEAC … Gave up the 10th fewest runs allowed in the MEAC (45) and he gave up the seventh fewest earned runs in the conference (32) … Gave up the sixth fewest walks in the MEAC (22) … Made his season debut in relief as he pitched two scoreless and hitless innings in the Aggies 1-0 win over Coppin State on Feb. 18 in which Johnson was awarded the win … Made his first start of the season on Feb. 25 when he pitched seven innings against Lehigh at War Memorial Stadium striking out seven, giving up four hits and two runs in the Aggies 11-5 win as Johnson improved to 2-0 during the season … Improved to 3-0 on March 10 as he went eight innings against archrival N.C. Central where he struck out seven, gave up three runs (two earned) and five hits in the Aggies 5-3 win … Got a no-decision but pitched effectively against St. Bonaventure as he went seven innings, gave up three runs (one earned) and struck out five in a 4-3 Aggies win on March 18 … Improved to 4-0 on March 31 as he went five innings, gave up only two hits, one run (none earned) in a 12-1 win at Savannah State … Made a start at the MEAC tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla., on May 18 as he went five innings and improved to 7-1 in the Aggies 15-7 tournament win over Coppin State … Also made a start in the NCAA regional against Purdue where he went 3.2 innings against Purdue at the University of North Carolina on June 2.  

2017 Season: Made 15 appearances with 12 starts as a freshman … Finished the season with a 4-4 record with a 6.16 ERA in 64.1 innings pitched … Posted 36 strikeouts and 18 walks … Ranked fifth in the conference in fewest walks … Made his collegiate debut on Feb. 17 against James Madison as he pitched 1.1 innings of relief striking out one and walking one in a 5-1 loss … Made his first career start at Norfolk State on Feb. 22 as he went five innings striking out five, walking none and surrendering six hits in a 4-3 win as he earned his first collegiate victory … Made a midweek start at Charlotte on March 7 as he went six strong innings giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out one to lead the Aggies to a 2-1 upset win over the 49ers as he improved to 2-1 on the season … Got his first weekend start on April 1 against conference foe Savannah State as he pitched 6.1 innings giving up seven hits and three runs while striking out one in a 12-3 Aggies win at War Memorial Stadium … A week later at Florida A&M, he went 6.2 innings giving up just four hits and one run while striking out five and walking two as he improved to 3-1 as the Aggies defeated the Rattlers 7-1 … At Savannah State on May 7, he went six innings and gave up five hits and one earned run while striking out five in the Aggies 12-2 win as he improved to 4-3 on the season.

High School: Attended and played baseball at North Davidson High School, one of the best high school programs in the state of North Carolina … Led North Davidson to the Class 4A West regional … Pitched a complete-game shutout in the playoffs as a senior to earn the win with over 100 pitches thrown … Led North Davidson to the Central Piedmont 4A title.
