2020 Season: Season was canceled early because of the COVID-19 pandemic … Before the season ended, started to become the Aggies closer … Made eight appearances without a start … Pitched 14 innings, posted an impressive 1.29 ERA and nearly averaged two strikes per inning with 24 on the season … Opponents hit .114 against Gates as he went 1-1 with two saves on the season … Ranked third in the MEAC and 35th in the nation in pitching appearances … Ranked third in the conference and 80th in the nation in saves … Was tied for fourth in the league in strikeouts and tied for second in games finished (6) … Posted a career-high nine strikeouts over four innings pitched in an Aggies loss to Lehigh on March 6 … Pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball and struck out four while earning the save in an 8-5 win over the ACC’s Boston College Eagles at War Memorial Stadium on March 2 … Days earlier, went 1.1 innings without giving up a run while striking out two in the Aggies 2-1 win over BC … Pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball and struck out four to earn the pitching victory as the Aggies defeated Gardner-Webb 4-2 on Feb. 22.
2019 Season: Made 17 appearances with 11 starts in his first season as an Aggie … Went 4-4 on the season with a 4.05 ERA …. Was a weekend pitcher before going to the bullpen as he pitched 66.2 innings and led the team in strikeouts with 65 … Opponents hit only .234 against him … Ranked third in the conference in opposing batting average … Ranked 10th in the league in ERA … Ranked third in fewest hits allowed by a starter, fifth in fewest runs allowed and ninth in fewest walks allowed … Made his first career start for the Aggies on Feb. 15 as he went 5.0 innings, gave up two hits and struck out two as he was credited with the win in the Aggies 6-2 victory … Helped the Aggies secure a 10-3 conference win over rival N.C. Central on March 9 as he went 5.0 innings, gave up four hits, two runs and struck out seven as he was credited with the win in Durham … Improved to 3-0 on March 23 when he pitched 6.0 innings, gave up four hits and two runs while striking out three in the Aggies 7-2 win at Bethune-Cookman on March 23 … Had a 4-0 start to the season as he pitched 5.0 scoreless innings in a 15-3 win at Florida A&M … In the game, he posted nine strikeouts, gave up only one hit and walked just one … Earned his first career save when he went 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball in a 3-0 Aggies win over Northern Kentucky on Feb. 24.
2018 Season (Mott Community College): Made 10 appearances with nine starts … Went 7-1 with three complete games … Pitched 44.0 innings, gave up only 13 earned runs and posted a 2.66 ERA … Had 53 strikeouts on the season … Did not give up a home run during the season.
2017 Season (Mott Community College): Made 10 appearances with nine starts … Went 5-2 with one complete game … Pitched 42.0 innings, gave up 23 earned runs and posted a 4.93 ERA … Had 42 strikeouts and 24 walks on the season.
High School: Attended and played his high school baseball at Roseville High School.
