BOSTON – Led by another stellar performance from senior
Spirit Morgan, the North Carolina A&T women's indoor track and field team moved a step closer toward its goal of winning its first-ever Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) indoor championship. B
Before a blizzard hit the Northeastern portion of the country, the Aggies placed third at the 2026 CAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday at the TRACK at New Balance. A year ago, the Aggies finished fourth at the CAA indoor championships. On Sunday, the Aggies scored 93 points to finish behind the 2026 CAA indoor track and field champion Elon Phoenix. The Phoenix scored 135 points to win the title ahead of second-place Hampton, the 2025 CAA indoor track and field champs.
Morgan broke A&T's program record in the high jump for the third time on Sunday in claiming her second straight CAA indoor title in the event. Morgan cleared the bar at 6 feet, 1 ¼ inches to break her own meet record that she set last season at 5 feet, 10 inches. In clearing 6 feet for the second time this season, Morgan put herself in position to qualify for the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships meet scheduled for March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Ark.
It will be a close finish. Morgan is in a six-way tie nationally for 10th in the women's high jump. The top 12 qualify for nationals.
The Aggies' other field event title came in the triple jump. Junior
Olivia Dowd won the event with an indoor best jump of 41 feet, ½ inch. Two years ago, Dowd finished 16th at the CAA indoor championships. Last season, she finished third before ascending to gold on Sunday. Dowd added another four points for A&T by finishing fifth in the long jump at 19 feet, 2 ¾ inches. It marked her indoor personal best.
On the track, senior
Zamia Stelly came into the championships as the favorite in the 60-meter hurdles. But she did not finish the final, leaving the door open for freshman
Jayda Lewis. Lewis won her first indoor event conference championship by finishing the 60H in 8.43. She moved ahead of Stelly for the best time in the CAA. Thanks to
Lucheyona Weaver's two titles over the previous two seasons, an Aggie has won the CAA 60H title every year A&T has been in the conference.
Junior
Serenity Brazell posted an indoor best 400m time of 54.79 to win her first individual CAA indoor event title. Brazell helped the Aggies' 4x400-meter relay team win the CAA indoor title in 2024. The Aggies gathered the most points in the 60m. A&T scored 13 points in the 60, led by junior
Makenna Urbanek.
Urbanek placed third in 7.42. Senior
Aaliyah Harris finished just ahead of sophomore teammate
Meara Rasul. Harris crossed the finish line in 7.563 to place fifth while Rasul crossed in 7.569 to place sixth. Rasul scored eight more points for A&T with a second-place finish in the 200m, running 23.88. It marked an indoor personal best for Rasul.
The Aggies also had a second-place finish in the 4x400. The team of junior
Kymara Brodie, Brazell, freshman
Eden Fuller, and junior
Hayleigh Bryant finished in 3:45.44 behind Towson.
After Morgan hopefully makes an appearance at nationals, the Aggies will open the season at High Point University's Bob Davidson Team Challenge, March 20-21.
