0713_PietersGREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T indoor men's and women's track and field indoor teams nearly had a sweep of all the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) indoor track and field weekly awards on Tuesday. The only hiccup was sharing the CAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week award.

Redshirt junior middle distance/distance runner Deavion Deleon shared CAA co-Women's Track Athlete of the Week with Hampton's Brianna Charles. The CAA's other female weekly award went to graduate high jumper Spirit Morgan, helping her earn CAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.

On the men's side, junior high jumper Yule Pieters won his first career weekly award when he secured CAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Senior hurdler/sprinter Jason Holmes claimed his third career CAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week indoor honor and his seventh overall when outdoor is included. Holmes was the 2023 CAA Indoor Track Rookie of the Year.

Deleon crushed the women's 1-mile program record she set last week by running a 4:49.26 to finish second at the 2026 Carolina Classic hosted by the University of South Carolina over the weekend. Deleon broke G'Jasmyne Butler's 12-year-old record last week by running a 4:57.17at Liberty University's Brant Tolsma Invitational. Deleon's time at South Carolina ranks her third in the CAA.0715_Deleon

Morgan also broke a program record she set last weekend at Liberty. Morgan jumped 6 feet to win the women's high jump at the Carolina Classic on Saturday. A week earlier, Morgan jumped 5 feet, 10 ¾ inches to set the program standard. With her jump at South Carolina, she became the first female Aggie to clear six feet on the high jump bar.

Her 6-foot mark puts her in a tie for first place in the CAA along with Northeastern's Camryn Cole. She is ranked 16th nationally along with three other athletes.
Piters recorded the second-best high jump in program history, clearing 6 feet, 9 ½ inches to move into first place in the CAA. Pieters' jump is second only to Odell Benders, who jumped 7 feet, 2 inches. His mark was good enough for second place at the Carolina Classic.

Holmes, a two-time second-team indoor All-American in the 60-meter hurdles, looked the part over the weekend. Holmes ran three preliminary races in the 60H before coming fractions of a second shy of winning the final with a time of 7.63. Holmes' finish helped him move into first place in the CAA, and he tied for 15th nationally.

0715_HolmesHolmes also ran the two 60-meter prelim races before not running the final. His 6.75 in the 60m semifinal moved him into the No. 4 ranking in the CAA.

A&T's indoor track and field teams return to action this weekend when they return to South Carolina to compete in the prestigious Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson University, February 13-14 at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex.
