BOSTON – Prayers are with the North Carolina A&T men's and women's indoor track and field teams as they are still in Boston after a massive snowstorm impacted the Northeastern portion of the country.

Before the snowstorm, however, the Aggie men stormed their way to their second straight Coastal Athletic Association indoor track and field championship by scoring 175.5 points on Sunday at the TRACK at New Balance. For the second consecutive season, the Aggies dominated the competition. On their way to winning the indoor title last season, the Aggies beat the second-place team by 39 points.

On Sunday, the next closest team to the Aggies was championship host Northeastern, which was 54 ½ points behind A&T with 121. William & Mary closed out the top three with 120 points. Sunday's triumph marked the Aggies' seventh indoor conference championship in program history.

The Aggies were led by Jason Holmes, a senior, as an indoor competitor. Holmes claimed Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning the men's 60-meter hurdles and 60 meters, and finishing fourth in the men's 200m. Holmes won the 60m by running a personal best 6.67. It marked Holmes's first-ever conference championship in the 60m.

Meanwhile, he claimed his third straight 60H CAA title by running a 7.71. Holmes' 7.55 at Clemson University's Tiger Paw Invitational appears to be enough to qualify him for his third straight NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship meet scheduled for March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Ark. Holmes is a two-time second-team indoor All-American in the 60H. The Aggies secured an additional eight points in the 60H with Isaiah Taylor's second-place finish in 7.81.

The Aggies, known as Sprinter U., picked up 29 points in the 60m. In addition to Holmes's 10 points, junior Lassale Hewlett finished a fraction of a second behind Campbell's Bryce Lofton (6.733) to finish third with a time of 6.737. Junior Jordan Ware finished fifth in 6.79, and senior Jalen Booth-Mitchell gave A&T one more point with an eighth-place finish in 6.93. A&T's big-point bonanza came in the 200m.

Ware won his second consecutive CAA indoor 200m title, running a meet-record 20.80. It tied his personal indoor best as an Aggie, which he ran at last season's CAA indoor championship. He ran a 20.74 during his career at Mississippi State. Ware's 10 points were a part of a 32-point outburst for the Aggies in the 200m. Junior Nakhi Benjamin placed second in 20.83, followed by Booth Mitchell (20.99) in third and Holmes in fourth (21.03). Isaiah Taylor added to the total by finishing sixth in 21.11.

The Aggies also claimed two titles in field events. Sophomore Alex Henry won the weight throw with a toss of 64 feet, 1 ¼ inches. His throw broke the meet record and serves as the second-best throw in program history behind his 65-foot, 2 ¼ inch throw at the Mondo College Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, NC, on January 17 of this year. Henry picked up eight more points for the Aggies by finishing second in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 8 inches.

A&T picked up 18 points in the triple jump, led by junior Xavier Partee. Partee won his second straight CAA indoor triple jump title. His best jump measured out at 49 feet, 11 ¼ inches. Sophomore teammate Ty'Heak Buie finished third as his jump measured out at 49 feet, 8 ¼ inches. Sophomore Grant Boykin scored two points with a seventh-place finish at 46 feet, 11 ¾ inches.

A&T scored 14 points in the men's high jump with junior Yule Pieters finishing second (6 feet, 8 ¾ inches) and freshman Brenton Baker finishing third (6 feet, 7 ½ inches). Another 17 points came A&T's way in the men's long jump with junior Kaleb Lucas placing second with an indoor personal best jump of 23 feet, 8 ¾ inches.

Freshman Xayden Hunt placed fourth (23 feet, 5 ½ inches), and Baker placed fifth (23 feet, 3 ¼ inches). A&T's best relay was the 4x400 as the team of sophomore Elijiah Thomas, Isaiah Taylor, freshman Taysaun Wilson, and junior Xzaviah Taylor finished second behind Hampton with a time of 3:09.31.

After cheering on Holmes at the NCAA indoor championships, the Aggies will open the outdoor season at High Point University's Bob Davidson Team Challenge, March 20-21.
