ROCK HILL, S.C. – North Carolina A&T men's tennis (5-4) defeated Anderson 5-2 for its fifth consecutive win at Rock Hill Tennis Center Tuesday. It is the Aggies longest winning streak since the athletics department reinstated the program in 2015.
The Aggies won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Freshmen Eder Blanco and Jorge Perez defeated Adam Kush and Aaron Cabo 6-3 at the No. 2 doubles. Then, junior Esteban Lopez and senior Vasil Ivanov defeated Juan Sengariz and Julian Kenzlers 7-6 (2) at the No. 3 to clinch the doubles point.
Freshmen Ian Pedersen and Ethan Baly won the final doubles match, defeating Greyson Doscotch and Thomas Summers 7-6 (4) at No. 1.
In singles competition, Lopez defeated Kush 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1, and Baly defeated Spencer Snow 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 5.
Anderson did get on the board with a win at No. 6 singles as Lorenzo Martinetti defeated senior Nolan Martino 6-1, 7-5. Pedersen clinched the match for the Aggies at the No. 2. Doscotch won the first 6-2 before Pedersen answered with a 6-4 win in the second. Pedersen won the third set 6-3 to clinch the singles win.
After losing the first set 6-4, Ivanov did go on to beat Kenzlers, 6-1, 6-3 over the final two sets as he secured career victory No. 24. Sengariz defeated Blanco 7-5, 7-6 (9) at the No. 3 in the final match.
The Aggies travel to Davidson, N.C., Saturday at 3 p.m. to face Davidson College.
