BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Sophomore Kennedi Lee birdied her final hole on Tuesday to ensure a top-10 finish at the 2022 Central Michigan University Invitational at the par-72, 5,935-yard Birmingham Country Club golf course.
The final round of the CMU invite took place on Tuesday with 18 holes after playing an 18-hole first round on Monday. Lee finished in a four-way tie for 10th by shooting a 16-over 160. Lee finished seven shots off the lead behind Bowling Green's Emily Nystrom and Oakland's Bridget Boczar, who finished as co-medalist at 9-over 151. Bowling Green's Kayla Davis, CMU's Casilda Allendesalazar and Western Michigan's Alissa Fish finished in a third-place tie at 13-over.
The Aggies finished seventh after compiling an 87-over 663. Oakland won the tournament with a 58-over 634, followed by CMU (639) and Bowling Green (642) in the top-3.
Lee started the day in fourth place at 5-over, and player her first hole on the par-4, 364-yard fifth. Lee had a tough start to her day, shooting 9-over on her first six holes before composing herself to card a four on the par-4, 342-yard 12th.
After a bogey on the 13th, she carded her first birdie of the day, a four on the par-5, 471-yard 14th. Lee parred six of her next seven holes before reaching the par-4, 370-yard fourth, where she birdied to end her round.
Senior Jayla Rogers had the low score of the day for A&T. She shot a second-round 10-over 82 to finish with a two-day total of 24-over 168. l round and finished with a 24-over par 168 in two rounds. She also finished strong by recording her only birdie on the par-4, 330-yard sixth.
Sophomore Vileska Gelpi finished a stroke behind Rogers after an 11-over 83 in the final round to finish the tournament with a 169. Gelpi had the Aggies best par-5 showing of the week, shooting 1-over on the course's four par-5s, and she had three birdies for the tournament, including Tuesday's birdie on the par-3, 153-yard 7th.
Senior Kiaira Porter closed out A&T's scoring on Tuesday with 172. Porter shot 28-over 172 for the tournament and shared the team lead in birdies for the week with Lee at four. Stutts finished with a 170 for the tournament after shooting an 8-over 80 on Monday.
A&T does not return to the course until 2023, when they play in the annual Oyster Shuck Match Play hosted by The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
