WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Another week, another top-five finish for the senior North Carolina A&T women's golf star
Ekaterina Prokhorova. The tournament started on Monday and concluded on Tuesday.
Prokhorova tied for second at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate tournament hosted by William & Mary University on the par-72, 5,947-yard greens of the Kingsmill Resort golf course. She put together a two-day, three-round 6-over 72-76-74—222 to share second place with Dartmouth's Olivia Cong. Both golfers trailed Dartmouth's Sophie Thai, who took medalist honors by shooting a 2-under 68-70-72—210.
This marks Prokhorova's seventh top-five tournament finish in a row, and her fifth time amongst the top two. She and Cong edged Dartmouth's Clair Wan by one stroke (71-75-77—223).
Dartmouth dominated the tournament with a 21-over (284-294-307—885), 23 strokes better than Navy, which shot a 44-over (296-304-308—908) for second place. Sacred Heart trailed another 23 strokes at 67-over (312-309-307—931) to round out the top three. The Aggies placed seventh after shooting a three-round 86-over (314-318-318—950).
Monday, Prokhorova opened with a string of pars from the par-3 158-yard 13th to a bogey on the par-3 139-yard 17th. She followed a birdie on the par-4 343-yard 18th with a bogey at the par-3 170-yard 2nd and a triple bogey on the par-4 372-yard 4th.
She made up for it on the home stretch with four pars and four birdies. She birdied the par-5, 495-yard seventh, then made three straight birdies on holes 10, 11, and 12, starting with a three on the par-4, 295-yard 10th. All were par-4s, bringing her to even 72. Prokhorova's second round was clean except for bogeys at 3, 4, 7, and 11 for a 4-over 76.
Prokhorova's final round on Tuesday had ebbs and flows. She opened with birdies from 13-15, including a two on the par-3, 158-yard 13th. An unfortunate double bogey on the par-5, 449-yard 16th dropped her back to 1-under for the round. Over the next six holes, she couldn't find a rhythm, alternating pars with bogeys on 18 and No. 2, and carding a six on the par-4 fourth.
However, she found her footing. She responded with five pars and two birdies—one on the par-5, 495-yard seventh and one on the par-4, 329-yard ninth. She bogeyed No. 11, finishing the day 2-over 74. Senior
Ana Rodriguez had the next highest Aggie score with a 21-over 82-78-77—237, placing 29th. Senior
Tori Mouton contributed a 75-86-82—243.
Sofia Fernando added an 86-83-85—254.
The Aggies will travel to Morganton, NC, next for the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Appalachian State University.
