Aggies Complete Day of CAA Women's Golf Championships

SOUTHPORT, NC – The North Carolina A&T completed its first day of the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Golf Championships at the par 72, 5,995-yard The Reserve Club at St. James golf course on Friday.

The Aggies are in ninth place after shooting an opening round 340. A&T Junior Ana Rodriguez scored lowest during the round for the Aggies, shooting a 9-over 81. She is in a tie for 27th place. The College of Charleston Cougars ranked 43rd in the nation, are in a first-place tie with the Delaware Blue Hens. Both teams shot a first-round 297. The UNC Wilmington Seahawks are two shots off the lead (299), and 50th-ranked Campbell trails by four shots (301).

Charleston's Molly Hardwick is the clubhouse leader after Round 1, posting a 1-under 71 on the day. Delaware's Anushka Sawant and Elon's Ashley Lafontaine are in a tie for second place after shooting an even-round 72. There is a six-way tie for fourth place.

Rodriguez started the day on the par 4 first. She finished the first nine at 7-over three bogeys and an eight on the par 4 eighth. She opened the back nine with a bogey before carding her only birdie of the day, a three on the 290-yard par 4 11th. She had a streak of three straight pars before closing the round with two bogeys and two pars to finish the back nine with a 38.

Rodriguez's junior teammate, Polina Marina, finished her front nine at 6-over. It included two double bogeys and two bogeys. She bogeyed 10, 14 and 18 on the back nine and doubled on the par 5 12th. She did card a birdie on the 457-yard par 5 17th to end her round with an 82. Marina is in a tie for 29th.

Junior Ekaterina Prokhorova had one birdie on her scorecard on Friday, a four on the 510-yard 12th. She shot 83 during the first round, placing in a four-way tie for 33rd. The other two Aggies on the course on Friday were sophomore Sofia Fernandez and junior Tori Mouton. Fernando shot 94 but did have two birdies, both on par 3s. Mouton shot a 97.

The championships continue on Saturday. Mouton tees off at 8:30 a.m. Rodriguez will be the last Aggie to tee off. Her round starts at 9:10 a.m.
