HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The North Carolina A&T women's golf team completed the second day of the three-day, three-round Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College at the par 72, 6,009-yard Moss Creek Golf Course.
The Aggies are in 10th place after a two-round 80-over 656. High Point University (HPU) leads the tournament at 40-over 616, followed by Wofford at 624 and Samford at 628.
Junior Polina Marina finds herself in the top 10 after shooting 12-over 156. As the final round approaches Sunday, Marina is in a four-way tie for ninth place. Junior Tori Mouton is the closest Aggie. She is in a three-place tie for 40th place after shooting a 21-over 165. The leader in the clubhouse is Samford's Grace Engel at 3-over 147, followed by HPU's Anna Howerton (148) and East Tennessee State's Alex Crafton (150).
Marina's Friday started with four straight pars before bogeys on 14, 15 and 17 moved her to 3-over. She carded two more bogeys and two double bogeys during her first round but got some relief with a birdie on the par 4, 327-yard third. Marina finished Round 1 at 8-over 80.
Saturday worked out much better for the Charlotte transfer. Even though she bogeyed two of her first three holes, she battled back to post a three on the par 4, 370-yard 13th, moving to 1-over on the day. Another bogey on the par 5 14th moved her back to 2-over before she put together a string of four straight pars to close out the back nine.
She started with two straight bogeys on the front nine but ended the front side with seven straight pars to finish the front nine at 2-over and the round at 4-over. Meanwhile, Mouton filled her first-round card with two birdies.
The first came on the par 4, 358-yard first before scoring birdie again on the 327-yard par 4 third. Mouton's day started on the 10th hole, where she carded six bogeys before getting to the front nine for her two birdies. After birdieing No. 3, she finished the remainder of the front nine at 4-over to finish the day at 11-over.
On Saturday, she shot 3-over on the back nine, which included a birdie on the par 4, 268-yard 16th. She went 7-over on the front nine to finish the round at 10-over.
Junior Ekaterina Prokhorova shot 167 over the tournament's first two days, including a first-round birdie on the par 3, 144-yard fifth. She also birdied 16 on Saturday and is in a five-way tie for 45th. Junior Ana Rodriguez has a two-round score of 168. She recorded her first and only birdie of the tournament thus far on Saturday when carded a three on the 16th. She is in a three-way tie for 51st. Sophomore Sofia Fernando shot a 179 over the first two days.
The final round starts Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
