MT. PLEASANT, SC – The North Carolina A&T women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring semester on Tuesday at the Rivertowne Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern at the par 72, 5,832-yard golf course at the Rivertowne Country Club.
In their first competition since October, the Aggies placed 12th overall by shooting a 71-over 941 (320-311-310), improving each round. High Point University (HPU) won the tournament with a two-day, three-round total of 26-over 890. The Panthers beat Marshall by two strokes (296-301-295—892), while Elon placed third (296-299-299—894).
A&T junior Ekaterina Prokhorova leaped three spots from her play on Monday to finish in a three-way tie for 13th with Elon's Garland Gould and Richmond's Maya Beasley. Prokhorova shot a final round 73 to move up the leaderboard.
Prokhorova shot a three-round 7-over 223 (75-75-73) to finish eight strokes behind tournament winner Odette Garcia of Charleston Southern (72-73-70—215) who shot a final-round 70 to finish at 1-under. HPU's Ella Perna, UNC Asheville's Caroline Patterson and Marshall's Emily McLatchey finished in a three-way tie for second at even par.
Junior Ana Rodriguez finished in a four-way tie for 32nd. Rodriguez also shot a third-round 73 to finish the tournament at 14-over (79-78-73—230).
Prokhorova started her back nine with a bogey before securing a birdie on the par 5, 505-yard 11th. She added another bogey to her card on the 13th before posting par on the final five holes on the back nine to finish the back nine at 1-over. She went par, par on the first two holes of the front nine before securing another birdie on the 459-yard par 5 third.
Four straight pars followed before she bogeyed the par 3 eighth. She closed the tournament with a par on No. 9. Prokhorova totaled six birdies during the two-day tournament.
Rodriguez littered her card with birdies on Tuesday, posting four during the final round at Rivertowne. She started with a birdie on the par 4, 361-yard 10th before posting a bogey on No. 11 and No. 13. Rodriguez then posted back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18. She placed a two on her card at the 140-yard par 3 17th before placing a three on the card on the 373-yard par 4 18th.
On the front nine, she had a bogey and a double bogey, but Rodriguez did birdie the par 3, 118-yard eighth before closing the day with a birdie on No. 9.
Junior Polina Marina finished the tournament at 26-over (82-77-83—242). Junior Tori Mouton ended the tournament at 30-over (84-81-81—246). The Aggies return to action March 3-4 at the River Landing Classic hosted by UNC Wilmington at the River Landing Golf Course.
