ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC — Ekaterina Prokhorova stacks another top-5 finish to her senior season after shooting a 6-over 78 final round at the Fripp Island Intercollegiate tournament hosted on the 72-par, 6,040-yard Fripp Island Resort golf course.
Prokhorova produced a three-day three-round 77-75-78–230 to finish in fourth place, her sixth top-5 performance in a row.
She ended just one stroke ahead of Chayse Cool from Charleston Southern, who shared fifth place with Bekka Mull from Gardner Webb at 15-over 231, and just one stroke behind Maddie Peake from Presbyterian, who finished 13-over 229.
Katie Stephens from Charleston Southern put together a 69-74-71–214 performance to finish at the top of the leaderboard, four strokes ahead of her teammate Eugenie Varet, who finished 2-over 218.
The Aggies finished in third place at 74-over 938 and had three top-10 scorers with seniors Polina Marina and Tori Mouton joining the mix. Marina tied for seventh at 16-over 232, and Mouton tied for ninth at 18-over 234.
Prokhorova ran into resistance on the front nine, carding an uncharacteristic six bogeys. However, she steadied herself, carding a par on the par-3 196-yard No. 8 to start a rhythmic stretch, which included two birdies on the par-4 345-yard No. 11 and the par-4 363-yard No. 13.
She ran into a bit of see-saw action to close the back nine, starting with a double-bogey on the par-3 151-yard No. 15, then bounding back with a birdie on the par-5 521-yard No. 16, taking an extra swing on the par-4 382-yard No. 17 before closing with a par on No. 18.
Marina carded three bogeys and a birdie on the front nine. She found her groove on the back nine, keeping it clean except for a hiccup on No. 13 en route to a 3-over 75 final round.
Mouton tied Prokhorova for the day at 6-over 78. She shot four bogeys and two double-bogeys but earned a few strokes back with birdies on the par-4 446-yard No. 10, as well as No.16, and No.18.
Kaathi Gunasegar contributed 33-over 259 to the team score. Sofia Fernando finished with 38-over 254.
The Fripp Island Intercollegiate marked the Aggies' final competition of the fall. A&T does not return to competitive play until Sunday, February 22, in Weston, Florida, for the Arcis HBCU tournament held at The Club at Weston Hills.
