GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical women's golf team will get an opportunity this week to not only play golf, but also to play for a worthy cause. The first day of the Folds of Honor Collegiate, hosted by Michigan State University at the par-72, 6,213-yard American Dunes golf course, occurred on Monday.
Folds of Honor raises money and awareness for the Folds of Honor Foundation. This nonprofit organization provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of disabled military service members and first responders. The name and mission of Folds of Honor come from the 13 traditional folds of the American flag during military funerals, which represent sacrifice, remembrance, and gratitude.
The Aggies shot 43-over 288 on Monday to place 12
th. Kansas leads after Day 1 at 4-under 288, while Texas A&M and Florida State are tied for second at even-par 288. A&T sophomore
Morgan Rodriguez posted the lowest score for the Aggies.
Rodriguez, the Delaware State transfer who played in the Folds of Honor event before, shot a 4-over 72 to finish in a six-way tie for 33
rd. Freshman
Macy Garth also finished in the top 50 after the first round, tying for 48th at 8-over 72 after two birdies.
Kansas' Ana Wallin leads the tournament at 4-under 72, followed by Arizona's Charlotte Back and Ohio State's Nellie Ong at 3-under 72. There is a four-way tie for fourth place.
Rodriguez started on the par-4 first and made par. She posted six pars and three bogeys on the front nine before making the turn and carding a three at the par-4, 381-yard 10
th. She bogeyed two of her next three holes before sinking a par putt on the par-4 14
th.
After another par on 15, she birdied the 434-yard, par-4 16
th to move to 3-over. Rodriguez finished her round with a bogey and a par for a 76. Garth had her two birdies on the front nine, a two on the par-3, 113-yard fourth, and another two on the par-3, 128-yard seventh. Garth parred the first five holes of the back nine, but then recorded four straight bogeys to finish with an 80 for the round.

About American Dunes
In 2006, the Grand Haven Golf Club hosted a small golf tournament that would inspire the founding of Folds of Honor. The Grand Haven Golf Club closed in 2018 and a limited group of patriots joined together with Jack Nicklaus to create American Dunes. Nicklaus led the project by donating his design fee, a group of 18 individuals sponsored one hole each, and five private investors joined together to preserve the birthplace of Folds of Honor. The mission of American Dunes is unwavering; to raise awareness and funds for the families of fallen or disabled military service members and first responders. Since the facility opened in May 2021, over $9.4 million have been donated back to Folds of Honor to provide life-changing educational scholarships.
In 2022, the annual Folds of Honor Collegiate was first contested with 18 men's teams. In 2024, the Collegiate welcomed a women's field to better reflect the mission at Folds of Honor.
