CARY, NC – The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University women's golf team's bid for a three-peat ended at the 2026 SAS HBCU Invitational. The Aggies entered the tournament as the two-time defending champion.

The Aggies finished tied for second after Sunday's final round, 18-over 298. They finished the tournament with a two-round 57-over 617 at Prestonwood Country Club, a par-70, 6,000-yard course. North Carolina Central University (NCCU) ended the Aggies' reign by shooting 34-over 594.

A&T also earned medalist honors in the previous two seasons, with Tori Mouton winning in 2024 and Ekaterina Prokhorova winning last season. This season, the Aggies had an individual second-place finish, with freshman Janiya Brown finishing eight shots behind 2026 medalist Sanaa Carter of NCCU. Brown shot a two-round 10-over 150. Junior Mia Truong also finished in the top 10. She finished in a three-way tie for sixth place with a 14-over 154. Senior Sofia Fernando (157), freshman Sophia Bullard (159), and freshman Macy Garth (160) finished 12th, 13th, and 14th, respectively, over the weekend.

The tournament's first round was canceled on Saturday because of inclement weather. Teams didn't start playing until 2 p.m. on Saturday before playing the final round on Sunday. Brown's first round card included three birdies. She started Saturday's action with a bogey on the par-3 185-yard 15th. She cleaned things up by securing a birdie on the 441-yard 17th. Brown moved to the front nine and ran into trouble on holes No. 3, 4, and 5, with a triple bogey and two bogeys. She regrouped nicely, however. Brown carded a three on the 410-yard par-4 sixth before posting a two on the 137-yard par-3 seventh. She finished her first round with five pars and two bogeys for a 75.

Brown started Sunday's play on the 441-yard par-4 17th. She parred the first two holes before carding a double bogey on the par-4 No. 1. The remainder of her front nine featured five pars and three bogeys. She moved back to the back nine and posted a birdie on the 572-yard par-5 10th. Brown finished the round and the tournament with five successful par putts and one bogey for another 75.

Truong started Saturday on the 543-yard 13th. She opened with two pars, then double-bogeyed the par-3 15th. After two more pars, she bogeyed the par-4 18th before carding two double bogeys, two bogeys, and five pars on the front nine. She returned to the back nine and shot par, bogey, and par to finish the first round at 80. Round 2 started positively. Truong birdied the par-4 17th and parred No. 18. After a double bogey on No. 1, she made three straight pars before bogeying the par-3 fifth. Truong finished the front nine with three pars and a bogey, then closed the back nine with six pars and a bogey over her final seven holes.

The Aggies are in action again this week. They will travel to St. Helena Island, SC, to participate in the annual Fripp Island Intercollegiate hosted by USC Upstate at Ocean Creek Golf Course, Oct. 23-25.
