BURLINGTON, NC – Three North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University women's golfers finished in the top 25 at the Elon Women's Invitational on Tuesday at the par-71, 6,225-yard Alamance Country Club.
Tuesday marked the final day and the third and final round of the tournament, which Elon won with a 9-over 861. The Phoenix, a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) member, beat another CAA school, William & Mary, by 21 strokes. The Tribe shot a three-round 882, and the Wofford Terriers rounded out the top three with a 32-over 884.
After Monday's first two rounds, the Aggies were in sixth place and held that position after Tuesday's final round, finishing at 38-over 294-296-300 (890), two strokes behind Western Carolina's 888. Freshman A&T golfer
Macy Garth maintained her top 10 position from Monday, moved from eighth to ninth after shooting a 3-over 74, and secured her first career top-10 finish with a three-round total of 5-over 72-72-74 (218). Sophomore
Morgan Rodriguez was in a three-way tie for 18
th after the first two rounds.
Rodriguez finished in a six-way tie for 18
th after the final round, shooting a 5-over 76 on Tuesday to finish at 10-over 72-75-76 (223). Senior teammate
Sofia Fernando moved up 11 spots to finish in a seven-way tie for 25
th place, shooting a final-round 3-over 74 to finish at 12-over 77-74-74 – 225.
Garth's round started on the par-4, 376-yard third with a par putt. She parred No. 4 before bogeying No. 5, then made seven straight pars to stay at 1-over. After bogeys on two of her next three holes, she birdied the par-3, 160-yard 16th and the par-5, 470-yard 17
th to return to 1-over.
A bogey on 18 closed out Garth's back nine before she ended her round and tournament with a par and bogey on No. 1 and 2, respectively. Garth parred 39 of the 54 holes she played at the Elon Women's Invitational. Rodriguez opened the third round on the par-3, 154-yard fourth, then bogeyed her first two holes before landing a birdie putt on No. 6.
Rodriguez bogeyed No. 9, then parred the first three holes on the back nine before back-to-back bogeys put her at 4-over on the day. She finished the back nine with three additional pars and a bogey on the par-5 17
th, then birdied the par-4, 369-yard first to return to 4-over.
She recorded a four on the par-4 second and a five on the par-4 third to finish the tournament. Fernando's final-round card included three birdies. She started on the par-5 sixth with a bogey, added another on the par-3 eighth, then birdied the par-4, 382-yard ninth. She parred the first three holes of the back nine before posting a bogey and a double bogey.
She scored again on the par-4, 382-yard 15
th, then posted four straight pars before a bogey on No. 2. Fernando closed out the tournament with two pars and a birdie on the par-3, 154-yard fourth. Junior
Mia Truong shot a three-round 75-75-76—226, recording a final-round birdie on the par-4 first. Freshman
Janiya Brown shot a three-round 75-79-77—231 and birdied the par-3, 195-yard 14
th.

Sophia Bullard (82-80-83—245) played as individuals. The Aggies will take a month off from competition before returning to action Oct. 17-18 at the SAS HBCU Invitational at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC
