GREENSBORO — Senior Ekaterina Prokhorova was great on the greens yet again, competing mightily with nationally ranked opponents to head the leaderboard after the first day of the UNC Greensboro Collegiate tournament hosted on the 72-par 6,011-yard Forest Oaks Country Club course.

Prokhorova is on track to claim her fourth individual title in the last six tournaments after improving from a 1-over 73 in the first round to a 3-under 69 in the second round to shoot a 2-under 142 total on Monday, besting a crowded leaderboard. Her performance edges Chutimon Rujiranan from Wake Forest University, the No. 1 team in the nation, by just one stroke with 1-under 143.  UNC Asheville's Carolina Patterson trails right behind at an even 144-par.

The Aggies dropped a couple of places to finish sixth after combining an 11-over 299 opening round with a 16-over 304 for a 27-over 603 total, trailing Longwood at 26-over 602 by one stroke. UNC Asheville leads the tournament at a 13-over 589 total while UNCG, the tournament host, is close behind at 15-over 591.

Prokhorova started the first round with an extra shot on the par-4 334-yard 12th but rebounded quickly with a par on 13 before scoring a birdie on the par-4 340-yard 14th. Six straight pars followed Prokhorova's birdie before she added another birdie on the par-3 144-yard third. The No. 4 threw off her steadiness as she carded her only double-bogey of the day on the par-4 451-yard fourth.

Characteristically, she bounced back quickly from there, keeping it even on the fifth, saving a shot on the sixth, and putting together a string of pars until a bogey on the par-4 334-yard 11th closed out her first round. Prokhorova put together an impressive card for the second round, recording only one bogey during the second round.

She opened with a string of three pars before a bogey on the par-4 15th, her only extra shot of the round. She answered that by saving a shot on the par-4 322-yard 16th and the par-5 495-yard 18th before three consecutive pars as she made the turn to the front nine. A birdie on the par-5 451-yard fourth moved her to 2-under on the round, and a birdie on the par-5 469-yard sixth landed her at 3-under.

Prokhorova's second ended with five straight pars. The next best score for the Aggies is a tie between freshman Kaathiyayani Gunazegar and senior Polina Marina at 8-over 152. Gunasegar started on hole 14, and finished the day with a 3-over 75 in the first round and a 5-over 77 in the second.

Marina opened on hole 13, finishing with a 2-over 74 opening round combined with a 6-over 78 second round. Senior Tori Mouton added 13-over 157 to the team score. Senior Ana Rodriguez shot a 21-over 165.
