MORGANTON, NC – The North Carolina A&T women's golf team played the first two rounds of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at the par-72, 6,213-yard Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club course. The Aggies are in 11th place after shooting a 36-hole 78-over 654.
Georgia Southern leads the 12-team tournament at 16-over 592, followed by Western Carolina, who shot a two-round 22-over 598. Gardner-Webb closed out the top-3 on Monday by shooting a 33-over 609.
A&T's lowest score on Monday belonged to Victoria Stutts, who shot a 15-over 159 to finish in a four-way tie for 39th. Stutts carded three birdies on Monday, including two in the first round. Stutts started her day on the par-3, 182-yard 13th with a par.
Stutts then scored for the first time with a birdie on the par-4, 362-yard 15th. After that, she bogeyed the 17th and 18th before making the turn, placing an unfortunate six on the par-4 first and moving her to 3-over on the round. She followed her double bogey with a bogey on two before getting back on track by birdieing the par-4, 370-yard third.
Bogeys on holes five and eight, Stutts had pars on the final four holes she played to shoot a first-round 5-over. Stutts started her second round with double bogeys on the 13th and the 17th before making the turn with a bogey on the 18th. She did score a birdie on the par-4, 370-yard fourth to move her 10-over. A double bogey and three bogeys closed out Stutts' round at 15-over.
Vileska Gelpi shot a 20-over 164 as she enters tomorrow's final round in a tie for 52nd. Gelpi had one birdie on her card in the first round before placing two birdies on her second-round card. Her first-round birdie came on the par-5, 484-yard third. Gelpi's second-round birdies came on the third and the par-5, 477-yard 14th.
Jayla Rogers is in a three-way tie for 54th after shooting a 21-over 165. She had one birdie in the first round as she shot a three on the par-4, 358-yard first. Kennedi Lee shot a 22-over 166 for a four-way tie for 57th.
The Aggies will play the final round of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
