NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES (10-15, 5-6 BIG SOUTH): A&T finally broke their losing skid last time out, beating the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, 62-51, inside the Corbett Sports Center on Wednesday night.
The Aggies did it on the defensive end like they have all year long, forcing a season-best 23 turnovers on 14 steals, led by Kameron Langley's five. It was his 10th-career game with five-plus steals, and he now has 261 in his career.
In February, A&T is 9-5 (.643) under head coach Will Jones, but 7-0 at home. They averaged 71.4 points in those home contests while holding their opponents to just 60.6 points per game. The last time the Lancers came to #ClubCorbett, they mustered just 41 points, and the Aggies won by 11.
Earlier this season against Longwood, Demetric Horton tallied his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. However, the Aggies will need to do more on the defensive end this time, as they only turned the Lancers over four times in that game.
Coach Jones is in his third season overall and second full season after initially taking over on an interim basis on December 24, 2019. In that same season, Jones earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) coach of the year honors and sports a 35-30 (.531) overall record at A&T.
LONGWOOD (18-5, 10-0 BIG SOUTH): The Lancers are riding an 11-game winning streak coming into Saturday's showdown, and they are fresh off an 85-72 win over USC Upstate. Longwood is 13-1 at home on the year but just 5-4 on the road.
The Lancers are averaging a Big South-leading 77.8 points per game on the season, but they average just 60.4 points per game on the road. The team is led by a foursome of double-figure scorers in Justin Hill (13.4), Isaiah Wilkins (12.5), DeShaun Wade (11.6) and Leslie Nkereuwem (10.4).
In their last matchup against A&T, Nkereuwem dropped 24 points off the bench on 7-of-13 shooting, but 10-of-12 shooting from the free throw line.
Head coach Griff Aldrich is in his fourth season with a 60-58 record at Longwood. Aldrich was an assistant at Hampton-Sydney for the 1999-2000 season before taking a hiatus from coaching before returning to take over the Lancers program in 2018. After back-to-back .500 seasons in conference play, Aldrich has already tied his most Big South wins in a single year at 10 with two weeks of games left to play.
THE SERIES: Saturday will be the seventh all-time game between A&T and Longwood. The two teams have split the series history, 3-3, with the Lancers winning the previous two.
QUOTABLE: "(Longwood) is coming in here on the road. They've played a ton of games at home on this first stretch, but now they've got to go on the road, and hopefully, we can make this a tough environment for them when they come in on Saturday and try to get a win."
