GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T returned to the golf course over the weekend. 

For the first time in 351 days, the Aggies women's golf team swung the clubs in a competitive event, and they did it in the city of Greensboro. 

A&T hosted the Aggie Spring Invitational at Forest Oaks Country Club in a match play event. It is the first time in program history the Aggies have hosted an event. 

Match play is a form of play where a player (or players) plays directly against an opponent (or opponents) in a head-to-head match. You win a hole by completing it in the fewest number of strokes, and you win a match when you are winning by more holes than remain to be played.

The Aggies entered the event as the No. 3 seed. The High Point University Panthers entered as the No. 1 seed, followed by the Appalachian State Mountaineers as the second seed and Central Michigan Chippewas as the fourth seed. 

Six teams originally entered the tournament, but two teams decided not to attend, leading the tournament to adopt a round-robin format. The Chippewas came away with the best record at 3-0, followed by App State at 2-1, HPU at 1-2 and A&T at 0-3. 

A&T opened the event against App State on Saturday as the Mountaineers claimed a 4-1 win. On Sunday, the Chippewas defeated A&T 3-2. 

Women's golf returns to action, March 8-9, when they compete in the River Landing Classic hosted by UNC Wilmington at River Landing Golf Course.
