GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T completed the Aggie Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72, 5,928-yard Bryan Park golf course.
The Aggie Invitational is a match-play event. The Aggies played Appalachian State on Tuesday and lost to the Mountaineers, 3-2.
"I think that everybody that participated enjoyed it," head coach Richard Watkins said. "The golf tournament went off perfectly. We had a little rain yesterday, but that didn't deter anybody. "We lost 3-2 against App State with the last match still on the course and the match still in jeopardy. I think the girls did a good job. We knew that there was enough parody in the field that one little mistake, a missed putt here and a miss shot here, could be the difference in the match."
Jayla Rogers (JR, Wilmington, N.C.) defeated Alyssa Cox 1up. Isabela Miravite (GS, Markina City, Philippines) defeated Mary Sears Brown 1up.
"It was definitely a battle," Rogers said. "That's the best way to describe both days. That was my biggest take from this tournament. It's okay if you miss a shot here or there; it's how you recover and try to get that little white ball in the hole as quick as possible.
Christyn Carr (SR, Atlanta, Ga.) fell to Layla Meric 1up. Vileska Gelpi (FR, Rockwood, Pa.) lost to Hannah Wang 1up. Maria "Xus" Boira (GS, Lleida, Spain) fell to Kayla Ward 3&1.
The Aggies, Oct. 26-27, in the UMES Collegiate Golf Championship hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.
