AGGIES OVERVIEW: Â North Carolina A&T will honor six seniors between the women's and men's game Saturday as the Aggies take on Howard in Corbett Sports Center.
It has been an amazing senior class that includes
Alexus Lessears,
Cinia McCray,
Shantell Bostick,
Mikaya Wilson,
C'coriea Foy and
Le'on Hill.
It is a class that over the previous three years have won two MEAC regular-season championships, made an NCAA appearance, made a WNIT appearance, won an MEAC tournament, finished 16-0 during the regular season in 2018-19 and leading into Saturday's game they are 47-13 in MEAC play over the last four years.
The class also includes one of the best rebounders and shot blockers in school history in Lessears. Two seniors – Foy and McCray – have or are closing in on 1,000 career collegiate points. Hill is also considered one of the programs best defensive players and Bostick and Wilson have shared the point guard duties over the past few seasons.
HOWARD BISON: Howard has won four of their last six games but fell to first-place Bethune-Cookman 88-59 the last time out. Ayonna Williams is one of three Bison averaging double figures (14.3 ppg) while also averaging 5.4 rebounds. Sarah Edmond averages 13.1 points and 3.4 rebounds and Jayla Thornton averages 12.5 points.Â
The Series: Howard holds a 45-31 advantage over the Aggies including a 16-13 advantage in Greensboro. N.C. A&T has won eight of the last nine meetings including the last five.
Rankings: The Aggies lead the MEAC in turnovers forced (22.08) and rank fifth nationally.
They rank second in the MEAC and sixth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage defense (25.0). N.C. A&T leads the MEAC and ranks 10
th in the country in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 34.3 percent shooting.
The team also leads the MEAC in rebounding margin (plus-5.2) but rank third in in rebounds per game (42.54). Nationally, they rank 55
th and 20
th respectively. The Aggies are also third in total rebounds (1,021) and are 45
th nationally.
The team ranks second in the MEAC with 4.6 blocks per game, which ranks 35
th in the nation. They are second in the conference with 111 blocked shots, which ranks 37
th in the country.
N.C. A&T leads the conference is scoring defense (56.9). They rank 30
th nationally. The team ranks second in the MEAC in scoring margin at 9.4 points per game and rank 54
th in the country.
Career Watch: McCray made a huge step toward her 1,000
th career point as she recorded a team-high 22 points against North Carolina Central Saturday. She has recorded 986 points putting her 14 points shy of becoming the 14
th player in school history to achieve that feat. Lessears has 810 career rebounds to place fourth in school history and needs 19 rebounds to move into third. Hill has 558 career rebounds and needs four rebounds to move into 11
th place held by Tracey King (2010-14).
Lessears and Hill have more than 100 career blocks. They are only six players in school history with 100 or more blocks. Lessears has 109 blocks Hill has 101.
In one season at N.C. A&T, Jones-Pack is looking to enter the top-15 in school history. She has recorded 32 blocks this season and 15
th place is A'eesa Bell that recorded 38 blocks from 1991-95.
A couple of Aggies rank in the top-15 in school history in assists. Senior guard
Shantell Bostick is tied for eighth with 255 career assists and senior guard Mikayla Wilson ranks 15
th with 201.
