LYNCHBURG, Va. – The North Carolina A&T men's tennis team fell to the Liberty Flames, 6-1, on Sunday evening in Lynchburg, Va. N.C. A&T falls to 0-3 in the spring.
"I hate the losses, but we can see the gains in every match," said N.C. A&T coach
William Crutchfield.
In No. 6 singles,
Nolan Martino (NCAT) defeated William Baker (LIB) in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5 to earn the lone point for the Aggies. Martino is now 2-1 on the season following his victory at Duke.
In the No. 4 singles match N.C. A&T's
Jorge Goenaga battled Steve Mundt through three sets. Mundt took the first set 7-6, but Goenaga stole the second set, 7-5. Mundt would eventually take the third set and win the point, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 1-0 (10-6).
In doubles play, N.C. A&T's
Vasil Ivanov and
Nicolas Arduh paired up to take on Mundt and Chase Burton (LIB) in No. 1 doubles but fell 6-4. N.C. A&T's Goenaga and
Esteban Lopez also played a close match in No. 2 doubles but lost 6-4 and Liberty earned the doubles point.
Next up, the Aggies will play at home for the first time this spring when they take on College of Charleston on Feb. 2 at 2 p.m., at the Aggie Tennis Complex.
