Aggies Snap Three-Game Skid, Beat Nicholls

Box Score

Montego Bay, Jamaica – North Carolina A&T led for 37 ½ minutes Friday afternoon as they eventually snapped their three-game losing streak by defeating Nicholls State 66-54 inside the Montego Bay Convention Centre. The Aggies turned in their best offensive performance of the year shooting 50 percent from the field as a team.

“I challenged the guys in the locker room to come out and play with their hearts,” said N.C. A&T coach Jay Joyner. “It was a great win for our program. I'm happy for these guys.”

N.C. A&T improved their overall record to 2-4 and picked up their first road win of the year. The Aggies dominated the glass outrebounding the Colonels 41-28.

Junior guard Tyler Maye poured in a career-high 19 points on 5-for-11 shooting including 9-for-10 from the free throw line. The Aggies shot a season-high 73 percent at the stripe. This comes after they set a then-season-high free throw percentage of 70.8 percent at North Texas earlier this week.

Fellow junior guard Kameron Langley also turned in a nice performance with three points, eight rebounds and a season-high eight assists while Ronald Jackson continued his double-double ways with 11 points and 11 rebounds. It was his fourth career double-double.

The Aggies jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead after a sweet alley-oop from Langley to Tyrone Lyons. Nicholls State responded and tied the game at 14 before A&T went on a 9-0 run to take a 23-14 lead. The Colonels would close the gap to 29-27 with 2:54 remaining in the first half. Both teams would go scoreless for the remainder of the period.

N.C. A&T scored the first four points of the second half to extend their lead to six, 33-27. Leading 38-35, the Aggies utilized a 14-4 run over seven minutes to pull away from the Colonels for good and secure the win.

“We stilled turned the ball over way too much,” said Joyner. “They still don't quite understand what I need them to do, so I'm going to keep teaching with passion. Until they get it right, I'm going to have to coach that way. It was a great win for the program. We'll take it.”

The Aggies will face Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 24 at noon at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
