GREENSBORO – Every Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) director of track and field believes North Carolina A&T senior hurdler
Jason Holmes had the best 2025-26 season of any CAA track athlete.
On Friday, the CAA announced its indoor track and field honors. Holmes led the Aggies with three postseason superlatives, as directors unanimously named him CAA Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. This recognition added to his impressive indoor career, marking his second straight men's track athlete of the year award.
Along with Holmes, two others from the Aggies track and field program earned CAA postseason honors. Graduate high jumper
Spirit Morgan was named co-CAA Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, and A&T director of track and field
Allen Johnson was named CAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
Holmes is the program's most decorated indoor hurdler. Beyond consecutive indoor athlete of the year honors, he finished 13th nationally in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2026 NCAA Championships with a 7.65, earning his third straight second-team All-American honor.
At the 2026 CAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Holmes secured his third straight 60H title with a time of 7.71. He also claimed the 60-meter event with a personal record of 6.67 and placed fourth in the 200m (21.03). The 25 points he scored propelled the Aggies to a second consecutive CAA men's indoor title and earned him the Most Outstanding Men's Track Athlete award of the championships.
In 2023, track and field head coaches voted Holmes CAA Indoor Rookie of the Year. He also has an outdoor rookie of the year to his credit. Holmes owns the program record in the 60H, clocking 7.54 on January 18, 2025.
"For my colleagues to make Jason a unanimous selection is a true testament to the reputation of excellence and consistency he has built up over the years in the CAA," said Johnson. "He has put in the work to become a dominant hurdler within our league, winning this award two years in a row. Jason can excel to heights unimaginable with the right work ethic, dedication to the craft, and discipline."
Morgan won the CAA indoor women's high jump title for the second straight season, jumping a program-record 6 feet, 1 ¼ inches during the 2026 conference championships. She remains the only female in program history to clear 6 feet. Morgan also cleared 6 feet at the 2026 Carolina Classic at the University of South Carolina. She competed in the high jump four times during the 2025-26 season, winning each.
"Spirit impresses so many with her relentless mental preparation for the high jump," Johnson said. " She competes to be the last woman standing, carrying that focus, demeanor, and attitude into every jump. Her only rival is herself, always determined to surpass her previous jump. Spirit's preparation sets her apart, and she clearly deserves this high honor."
Johnson led the A&T men to their second straight CAA indoor title. The Aggies scored 175.5 points to win the 2026 conference title. For the second consecutive season, the Aggies dominated the competition. The Aggies beat the next closest team by 39 points in 2025. In 2026, the Aggies beat the next closest team by 54 ½ points. The Aggies had the top four finishers in the 200m, the top two finishers in the 400m, and the 60H.
"Thank you to my colleagues for this honor. Our fantastic track and field coaching staff at North Carolina A&T drives our men's program's excellence and our women's program's growth," said Johnson. "Our student-athletes deserve tremendous credit for their preparation. I appreciate the support of our athletics director, Mr. Earl Hilton, and thank Chancellor James R. Martin II and his administration for their commitment to a thriving athletics department at North Carolina A&T."
