GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T superstar redshirt freshman Lewis Walker collected another Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) weekly honor on Monday.

After helping the Aggies men's basketball team rally from a seven-point deficit with under two minutes to play to beat the Hampton Pirates 71-70 in the NBA HBCU Classic on Friday at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Calif. As a result, the CAA named Walker its rookie of the week. It marks his third rookie of the week honor this season.

Walker, the top freshman scorer in the CAA and the sixth-leading scorer among freshmen in the nation at 19.1 points per game, had 18 points in the win over Hampton, but perhaps earned the award with his play in the final minute of action on Friday. With 43 seconds remaining, Walker made two free throws to bring the Aggies to within three at 68-66.

Eight seconds later, Walker came up with a steal, which led to two more free throws, which tied the game at 68-68 and put the Aggies on the brink of taking their first lead in the game since it was 3-1 with 18:08 remaining in the first half. In the final minute, Walker went 4-for-4 from the line and came up with a steal.

"Tonight shows we don't give up," Walker said after the Aggies thrilling win on the West Coast. "We are a very resilient group. We are always going to keep playing our hardest, it doesn't matter if we get down by 20 or if we are up by 20."

Walker is having one of the best freshman seasons in program history. He already owns the program for most as a freshman. As the Aggies head into a Thursday night game at home against the College of Charleston, he has 439 points and could become the first freshman to ever score 500 points in an Aggies uniform in a single season. If the season ended today, he would have the best scoring average of any freshman in A&T history. In addition, he owns the freshman record for most 20-plus point games in a single season with 10.

Walker and the Aggies will host the Charleston Cougars at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Corbett Sports Center.
