GREENSBORO – After a difficult loss at Hampton University last Monday, the Aggies returned home and delivered two of their biggest wins since joining the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) in 2022. Redshirt freshman Lewis Walker led the Aggies in those two humongous wins to secure his second CAA Rookie of the Week honor this season.

The conference named Walker its top rookie after he averaged 20.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. He shot 18-for-36 (.500) from the field, 8-for-13 (.615) from 3-point range, and 18-for-19 (.947) from the line.

"Obviously, I can score the ball really well, but I know with a lot of teams now, I am going to be the top guy on the scouting report," said Walker following A&T's 80-73 win over Towson on Saturday. "So I know when I'm coming off ball screens, and I want to go iso, I've got to have my head up and be able to find guys who are going to be wide open.

Teams are going to try to get the ball out of my hands, so trying to become a playmaker is absolutely a part of my growth."

Walker and the Aggies opened the week in Hampton, Va., against longtime HBCU rival Hampton University as a part of the CAA's annual MLK Day Game featuring its two HBCU members. Walker failed to score in double figures for only the second time this season, finishing with five points on 2-for-9 shooting.

Three nights later, however, he more than made up for that performance at home inside Corbett Sports Center. Posting 24 points on 7-for-12 shooting while playing all 40 minutes, Walker assisted the Aggies in defeating Hofstra 79-78. In the contest, he also had seven rebounds and made all eight of his free throw attempts.

Hofstra came into the game with the highest NET ranking in the CAA, and A&T's 16-point rally marked the largest come-from-behind win in the three-season Monté Ross era. Walker followed that outing with a 33-point afternoon in an 80-73 win over Towson on Saturday from Corbett.

Walker tied his freshman scoring record set nine days earlier at William & Mary. He also had seven rebounds, tied a career best with four assists, shot 9 of 15 from the field, 5 of 7 on threes, and 10 of 11 from the line. His five threes marked a career high. Towson had won four straight and was the preseason CAA favorite. Walker first earned rookie honors on December 8.

Looking ahead, A&T will try to keep its momentum going with three straight road games, starting with a Thursday night contest at Monmouth on January 29 at 7. The Aggies will also play Drexel (January 31) and College of Charleston (February 5) on the road before returning home to face Campbell Saturday afternoon at 2 on February 7.
