GREENSBORO, NC — The wait for North Carolina A&T's resilient women's tennis program is slowly coming to an end as they gear up to push for a historic spring season following a successful fall.
The Aggies entered the new year with motivation after several key victories, including against Gate City rivals UNC Greensboro (UNCG), as well as Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) opponents UNC Wilmington (UNCW) and Campbell.
It's a fresh start for the program, which will finally be competing at full strength after seasons of a limited roster leading to forfeited matches due to injury. Over the previous two seasons, the Aggies have mostly forfeited the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches because of injuries and other factors. The Aggies looked healthy and hungry for wins during the fall with the return of Tabeth Tadoum.
The Aggies are looking to carry this momentum into the spring championship portion of their season, which will kick off with a home match on Friday, February 13, against Bluefield State University at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center, starting at 1 p.m.
Next, the ladies will hit the road to Cullowhee, NC, to face Western Carolina University on Saturday, February 28, at 2 p.m. They will then return home to Piedmont Indoor Tennis courts to host HBCU opponent Norfolk State, who delivered a 5-2 loss to the Aggies in the previous matchup. The month of March will also include matches at Montreat (March 17) and at Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) foe Hampton (March 22)
The Aggies will transition from March into April on the road, with a contest at Queens University (April 2). The last few matches on the schedule keep A&T in North Carolina, starting with a match likely played at the Dudley High School Tennis Courts, against Longwood University on April 7. The Aggies then hit the road again to face North Carolina Wesleyan University the next day (April 8).
They finish the regular season on Saturday, April 11, against CAA opponent Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC., starting at 1 p.m. The Aggies went 9-10 last season despite being shorthanded.
