Campbell Gets Narrow Win Over A&T Women's Tennis

Flavia Villegas improved to 10-3 on the season.

BUIES CREEK, NC – North Carolina A&T women's tennis nearly secured another major win in a remarkable season, but fell just short. Campbell escaped with a narrow 4-3 win over the Aggies Saturday afternoon at the Nesbit Tennis Center. Campbell's win snapped A&T's three-match winning streak, dropping the Aggies to 9-5 overall.

A&T still has one more chance to secure double-digit victories for the first time in program history when the team travels to Montreat, NC, to face Montreat College on Tuesday, April 14, at 11 a.m. The Aggies nearly earned their 10th win Saturday. Senior Hana El Sherif fought hard at No. 1 singles winning in three sets over Sandra Mari Marti. El Sherif won the first set 6-4, then dropped the second set in a tiebreaker 7-6. Gomez Weiss secured the final set 10-7 for the Aggies. El Sherif has been stellar for A&T at No. 1 singles, improving to 7-7.

Sophomore Flavia Villegas captured the No. 6 singles win with an impressive three-setter against Aubrey Carroll. Villegas captured a competitive first set 7-5 before Carroll came back mightily with a 6-0 win in the second set, before Villegas triumphed with a 6-3 win. Villegas improved to 10-3 during A&T's historic 2026 season. A&T's other win in singles came at No. 2 when Randy Rakotoarilala defeated Mollie Garcia 6-3, 6-3. But the Camels won three straight set matches to secure the win.

Illouna Aneca beat Tabeth Tadoum at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2, followed by Sonia Pieczynska defeating Juana Gomez Weiss at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Campbell's other win came at No. 5 singles when Hayley Glen defeated sophomore Dorsa Cheraghi 6-3, 6-3. The journey the match took before singles included three intriguing doubles matches.  The doubles point went to the Camels thanks to a sweep in all three matches. El Sherif and Cheraghi lost to Aneca and Pieczynska at No. 1 doubles before Villegas Gomez Weiss lost to Mari Marti and Garcia 7-5.

Even though the Camels already had the doubles point, the No. 3 doubles match still went to completion. Tadoum and Rakotoarilala had a lengthy match against Glen and Carroll. Glen and Carroll eventually prevailed 7-6 and 8-6 in the tiebreaker.
