GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T men's indoor track and field team's return to competition was a successful one on Saturday, leading to the program securing two weekly honors from the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) on Tuesday after their performance at the Mondo College Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, NC.
Junior Sprinter Nakhi Benjamin secured CAA Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. Meanwhile, sophomore teammate Alex Henry secured CAA Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Benjamin secured his second career indoor weekly honor after earning his first recognition on February 18, 2025. Benjamin also has an outdoor CAA weekly honor to his credit back on April 29, 2025. Henry secured his first career weekly honor. Benjamin remained undefeated in the men's 200 meters after winning at the Mondo College Invitational with a time of 20.28.
His time marked a personal record for the University of Tennessee transfer. Benjamin's time is the third-fastest in the country and the best time recorded in the Coastal Athletic Association this season. Benjamin also won at JDL in December at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-off, where he ran a 21.05.
A&T expects Henry to step into the forefront as the Aggies' lead thrower after the graduations of Brayden Hodgest and Carlos Alexander. So far, so good. Henry won two events on Saturday, setting a personal record in both.
He won the shot put with a throw of 56-feet 7 ½ inches. It is the second-best throw in the CAA this season. His 65-foot, 2 ¼-inch throw in the weight throw helped him secure the top weight throw in the conference thus far this season.
The Aggies return to action on Friday, January 23, when they participate in the Stan Scott Invite hosted by Texas Tech University.
