GREENSBORO – Roster changes. Injuries. Having to forfeit a doubles and singles match during the spring season is hopefully a thing of the past, and what happened over the weekend at the UNC Greensboro Fall Tournament at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Aggies have remained amazingly competitive during the spring despite their roster deficiencies over the past few seasons. They went 9-10 in 2025 and made the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) tournament in 2023, earning the program's first postseason win since 2005. So, only imagine where the program is headed as they head toward full strength.
The Aggies defeated the Davidson Wildcats and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, marking the first time A&T has defeated either program. The Aggies defeated the Wildcats 4-2 before defeating fellow CAA member UNCW, 4-3.
Tabeth Tadoum highlighted the day for A&T because she represents the progress the women's tennis program is making. Tadoum missed last season with an ACL injury. Tadoum's return to the A&T lineup should bolster an already determined team that won nine matches without a sixth player.
"I already felt like I've won just by being back and competing," Tadoum said. "That's the mindset I had throughout my matches. It wasn't an easy feat, but I managed to fight for every point and keep the Aggie Pride spirit going.'
In addition to Tadoum's win against the Wildcats, the Aggies also got wins from Randy Rakotoarilala, Juana Gomez Weiss, and Valeriia Fomenko. Along with Tadoum's win against UNCW, Rakotoarilala won again, along with Gomez Weiss and Fomenko.
In addition to her two singles wins, Tadoum teamed with Flavia Villegas 6-3.
"They've sacrificed fun and comfort, pushed themselves beyond limits, and fully deserve this breakthrough," said A&T women's head tennis coach Dejon Bivens. "To defeat one of our conference rivals for the first time is nothing short of amazing, and it's just the beginning of what this group is capable of."
It's been tough on us with injuries and roster rebuilds. But this group is returning, and I said last year that we were training to be for this moment. They stayed, and here they are, betting better and better and better. I'm extremely moved by my ladies."
