GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T men's track and field program will try to pull off the indoor/outdoor conference champion combo starting on Wednesday, May 14, when North Carolina A&T hosts the 2025 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Outdoor Track and Field Conference Championship meet from Marcus T. Johnson Track.
Admission is free, and the conference championships will conclude on Thursday, May 15, with the Aggie men hoping to repeat what they did during indoor when they dominated the event on their way to the A&T Athletics Department's first-ever CAA title. The A&T women will go after their first conference outdoor title since 2019.
The meet will air live on FloCollege with Wednesday's coverage starting at 2:30 p.m., and Thursday's coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. The stream is free via subscription. However, the subscription will automatically renew unless the subscribers cancel after the meet.
The men enter the championship ranked 50th in the nation by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). It is the highest ranking of any team in the CAA. The relay teams have been the story thus far this season. The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Elijah Thomas, sophomores Isaiah Taylor, Xzaviah Taylor, and Dyimond Walker ranks eighth in the nation with their time of 3:03.10 on April 5 at the University of Florida's Florida Relays.
A&T's other men's relay team, the 4x100 team of junior Jason Holmes, sophomore Jordan Ware, and twin brothers Isaiah and Xzaviah Taylor, posted a 38.96 on April 5 at the Florida Relays. Holmes also stands out, ranking 13th nationally in the 110-meter hurdles by running a 13.45 at the Aggie Classic hosted by A&T two weeks ago.
In fact, the Aggies have three 110-hurdlers in the top 50 nationally, with Thomas Smith IV ranked 32nd (13.61) and Isaiah Taylor ranked 41st (13.66). Isaiah Taylor also ranks 31st nationally in the 400H (50.49), and his brother Xzaviah Taylor is 24th at 50.38. It's not all on the track for the Aggie men.
Freshman Ty'Heak Buie ranks 16th in the nation in the triple jump at 52-feet, ¾ inches, measured out at A&T's Aggie Invitational on April 18. Sophomore teammate Xavier Partee is 27th nationally after jumping 51 feet, 5 inches at the Aggie Classic. A&T also looks strong in the men's 400m.
Thomas has the best 400m time in the CAA at 46.66, followed by Xzaviah Taylor (46.69) and sophomore Caleb Gurnell (46.72). Walker is ranked fifth at 46.92. The Aggies are also one, two and three in the men's shot put with senior Brayden Hodgest leading the way with a program-record of 59 feet, 1 ¼ inches at the University of Virginia's High Performance meet.
Senior teammate Carlos Alexander follows with a measurement of 57 feet, ¾ inches. Freshman Alex Henry is third at 55 feet, 3 ½ inches. The same trio ranks two, three and four in the discus, with Alexander leading the way (163 feet, 6 inches), followed by Hodgest (162 feet, 7 inches) and Henry (159 feet, 10 inches).
On the women's side, junior Spirit Morgan is the favorite in the high jump after she jumped six feet at the Aggie Invitational. She ranks 14th in the nation. Senior Lucheyona Weaver should also be key for the ladies. She ranks 37th nationally in the 100H at 13.21, and she and her teammates Pebbles Scott, Aaliyah Harris, and Hayleigh Bryant rank 43rd nationally in the 4x100 relay.
Graduate Julieth Nwosu may also be prominent for the Aggies. She has won CAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week four times this season. Nwosu ranks 41st in the shot put at 53 feet, 10 ½ inches. Nwosu also ranks second in the discus in the CAA at 171 feet, 1 inch. Meanwhile, Olivia Dowd leads the conference in the women's triple jump at 42 feet, 4 inches.
