GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T junior high jumper Spirit Morgan's jump was so spectacular on Saturday that it drew celebration from many associated with A&T track and field, including director Allen Johnson.
Morgan won the women's high jump at the 2025 Aggie Invitational hosted by A&T at Marcus T. Johnson Track over the weekend by jumping a personal record (PR) of 6 feet. The PR earned her Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Field Athlete of the Week. It is Morgan's first CAA weekly honor after transferring from the University of Cincinnati in 2024.
Morgan's jump has her in a three-way tie for the ninth-best high jump nationally. She is tied for No. 2 in the NCAA East Region and has the No. 1 jump among CAA and HBCU competitors. In addition, Morgan's six-foot jump is No. 2 all-time in A&T women's outdoor track and field history. Morgan helped the Aggies win their eighth weekly honor of the season.
Saturday marked Morgan's first high jump win of the outdoor after she finished third at the Florida Relays (5 feet, 11 ½ inches) on April 4. Morgan is coming off a CAA indoor championship in the women's high jump.
The Aggies will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to participate in the Drake Relays, April 25-26. A&T is also scheduled to participate in the Uva High Performance on Sunday, April 27.
