GREENSBORO – The North Carolina A&T men's outdoor track and field team returned to the top 25 national rankings this week.
The Aggies are No. 21 in the latest United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings index. A&T spent many weeks in the USTFCCCA top 25 in the early 20s. The Aggie men's outdoor team finished the season ranked third nationally. Twice during the 2020-21 indoor season, the men earned the No. 1 ranking in the country.
As the Aggies men's and women's outdoor teams prepare for the 2025 Duke Invitational hosted by Duke University at Morris Williams Stadium in Durham, NC, the Aggie men are among the top 25 programs in the country behind their relay teams.
A&T's 4x100-meter relay team of junior Jason Holmes and sophomores Jordan Ware, Isaiah Taylor and Xzaviah Taylor are ranked sixth in the country after running a 38.96 at the University of Florida's Florida Relays on April 5. Meanwhile, the 4x400 team is ranked fourth nationally after the Taylor twins, freshman Elijah Thomas and sophomore Dyimond Walker, in 3:03.10 at the Florida Relays on April 5.
The Aggies have two more in the top 10, including Ware, who is ranked seventh in the country in the 200 meters with his 20.51 at Florida Relays. Also in the 200, sophomore Nakhi Benjamin is 61st at 20.90. In addition, Xzaviah Taylor is eighth in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles after running a 50.38 at Florida Relays.
Also aiding in the Aggies national ranking is Holmes who is 11th (13.57) nationally in the 110H. In the same event, Isaiah Taylor is 32nd (13.81). Freshman Ty'Heak Buie is 28th nationally in the triple jump at 50 feet, 8 ¼ inches.
The ladies will take center stage at Duke. Eleven women's outdoor track and field athletes will compete this weekend. Five men will compete.
