GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T men's tennis has had some close calls lately, but don't worry; the Aggies are still undefeated.

The Aggies outlasted the Norfolk State Spartans on Wednesday, 4-3, at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center, to move to 10-0 on the season. A&T, who has not played a true road game this season, improved to 5-0 at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. It was their third 4-3 win in the past five matches.

A&T started the day dominant in doubles, starting with a 6-0 win at No. 2 as freshman Jindrich Brill and sophomore Lucas Coupo-Moison defeated the Norfolk State duo of Deniz Okyay and Boris Lunin. Sophomore Said Akbarov and senior Ian Pedersen also looked imposing, defeating Vladisav Gorbatenko and Michele Elia 6-0.

With the doubles point already secure for A&T, NSU did claim a win at No. 3 doubles. The Spartans used the combination of Frederick McRae and Igor Kubalka to defeat Kaua Santos and Mathieu Dussaubat 7-6 (5).

Santos recovered from his doubles loss to win at No. 3 singles. Santos improved to 8-2 on the season with his 6-1, 6-3 win over Lunin. The Aggies grew their lead to 3-0 as Brill defeated Kubalka 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Brill is 9-1 this season and 3-0 at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.

NSU started to rally. Gorbatenko claimed the No. 1 singles win over Coupo-Moison 6-4, 6-3. The Spartans added another win at No. 5 singles. McRae earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Akbarov to bring the Spartans to within one, 3-2. But the senior calmed things down and put A&T back in the winner's circle.

Pedersen won in three sets over Okyay 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 to give the Aggies the singles match they needed to remain undefeated. Pedersen is now 8-2 this season and 5-0 at No. 2 singles.

The Spartans earned one more win on Wednesday. Elia defeated Dussaubat at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4).

The Aggies return to action to face LIU on Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
