GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T men's indoor track and field looks prepared for the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., as the Aggies continue to build depth.
Sophomore
Nakhi Benjamin showcased that depth over the weekend at Clemson University's Tiger Paw Invitational. As a result,
Nakhi Benjamin earned the men's program another CAA weekly accolade.
Benjamin secured CAA athlete of the week on Tuesday after taking over the team lead in the men's 200 meters from
Jason Holmes and the CAA lead in the event. Benjamin clocked a 20.88 to finish third, overcoming Holmes' 20.94, which he ran earlier this season at Clemson. Benjamin, a University of Tennessee transfer, is now ranked 30th in the nation.
Benajmin's 20.88 marked a new personal record and helped the men's 200m group move to 11th in the nation. That group also includes Holmes, sophomore
Jordan Ware (21.02), senior
Caleb Jackson (21.07), and
Isaiah Taylor (21.09).
The Aggies next destination is Virginia Beach as the men and the women go after CAA titles. The Aggie men have not won an indoor conference title since 2020 when they won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) indoor title. The women's last conference title came in 2022 when they won the Big South Conference.
The CAA indoor track and field championships are February 26-27.
