GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T indoor women's track and field senior hurdler/sprinter Lucheyona Weaver won her third Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) weekly honor this season and the fifth conference indoor honor of her career when she the CAA named her women's track athlete of the week on Tuesday.
Over the weekend, Weaver had another excellent showing at the Liberty University's Liberty Open in Lynchburg, Va., February 7-8. She defeated Olympian Gabbi Cunningham in the 60-meter hurdle finals for the second straight week. In Saturday's 60H preliminary round, Weaver ran an 8.20 for the fastest qualifying time.
She followed that performance by running an 8.17 in the final to win over Cunningham's 8.23. The next closest collegiate was Theresa Green-White, who finished third in 8.61. Weaver also ran the 60 meters at Liberty on Saturday.
Weaver qualified in the 60m prelims with a time of 7.56, the sixth-fastest time. In the final, she posted a 7.67 behind winner Sada De Sousa of Carson-Newman. Weaver beat Cunningham in the 60H final at the University of South Carolina's Gamecock Challenge 2025 a week earlier.
During the season, Weaver has run the 60H four times this season, failing to win only once when she finished third at the Corky Classic hosted by Texas Tech.
A&T has won eight weekly honors this year, including Weaver's three women's track athlete of the week honors. Fellow hurdler Jason Holmes also has three weekly men's track athlete of the week accolades, along with Julieth Nwosu winning women's field athlete of the week and Ty'Heak Buie winning men's field athlete of the week.
