WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The North Carolina A&T men's tennis players closed out the fall season at the Wake Forest Invitational at the Wake Forest Tennis Center over the weekend.
Junior Kaua Santos, who has established himself as one of the top players for the Aggies heading into the 2026 spring season, had another excellent showing. Santos, who won his first career tournament during the fall and made the main draw at the International Tennis Association (ITA) regionals in Cary, NC, won the D Singles 3-4 Playoff on Sunday, beating Georgia Southern's Matthew Mitchell, the No. 1 seed of the tournament.
In addition to Santos's success, it was a big weekend for A&T men's tennis, including Santos, before Sunday. Through Friday and Saturday's play, Santos reached the D Singles semifinals by defeating James Madison's Damian Sancilio 6-1, 6-3 and UNC Greensboro's Eric Lindermann 6-3, 6-3.
Santos lost to Sancilio last fall when Sancilio played for Virginia Tech. James Madison's Harrison Lee defeated Santos in the semifinals 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-1.
Sophomore Jindrich Brill also played well over the weekend. Brill made the semifinals of the A1 Singles. His journey to the final started with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8) win over Wake Forest's Aerial Zauber.
"It was a super tough match," said Brill. "I'm so glad I pulled it off because I worked so hard this week, and to win like this is a pleasure.
In the quarterfinals, Brill won by default before losing to Duke University's Alexander Visser in the semifinals, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Brill lost to Charlotte's Vasca Prata in the consolation match, 6-4, 6-4.
Freshman Gabriel Linovic also played over the weekend, winning his first-round D Singles match 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 over UNCG's Alan Trbonja. Linovic lost to Charlotte's Jack DiMenna in the quarterfinals 6-1, 6-3. In the Singles D West draw, senior Mathieu Dussaubat defeated JMU's Grant Kroodsma 6-2, 6-1. Dussaubat followed by defeating Elon's Luke Forester 6-2, 6-0 before losing an instant classic matchup to Sancilio 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-5), 13-11.
A&T also played well in doubles. Dussaubat and Santos teamed to win by default over ETSU's Jaun Andres Listo and Martin Vergara Del Puerto. The A&T duo lost to UNCG's Devon Moskowitz and John Gabelic 6-3.
The Aggies will now prepare for the spring season, aiming to secure their fifth consecutive winning season.
