EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T women's track and field athlete Paula Salmon is known for collecting weekly awards. On Tuesday, she claimed another in her illustrious career as she won Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) women's outdoor track athlete of the week. Tuesday marks the third time this season she has won the award.
She won one weekly award from the CAA during the indoor season. Last season, when the Aggies competed in the Big South Conference, Salmon claimed one weekly outdoor accolade and three during the indoor season, giving her eight weekly conference awards for her career.
Her latest triumph comes on the heels of an outstanding show at the Aggie Classic, hosted by A&T at Marcus T. Johnson Track. Salmon won the 100m hurdles and was a member of the winning North Carolina A&T 4x100m relay team at the Aggie Classic. Salmon posted the fastest time in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries at 13.12 (w) and ran away from the field in the finals with a winning time of 13.17.
In addition, Salmon ran the anchor leg on the A&T 4x100m relay team, which crossed the finish in 45.40 to claim first place. Pebbles Scott, Shaliciah Jones and MyKayla Perry joined her on the team. Salmon ranks 10th in the NCAA East Region and 15th nationally in the 100H this season.
Salmon is one of the best women's hurdlers in the history of the program, earning first-team All-America honors in the 100 hurdles in 2022 before claiming second-team All-America in the event in 2021. In addition, she captured first-team All-America accolades in the 60H in 2022. She led the Aggies to the 2022 Big South indoor championship by winning the 60H and finishing third in the high jump. She has finished in first place 18 times during her career and in the top-5 50 times.
