EAST GREENSBORO – The A&T women's tennis program received its first-ever weekly award from the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) on Tuesday when the conference named Nuria Sanz and Cielo Tapia-Cruz its women's tennis doubles team of the week.

"Cielo and Nuria have great chemistry, and it shows on the tennis court when they are competing," said A&T head coach Dejon Bivens. "I am so excited that their efforts are benefiting the program and the culture here at A&T.

We are trying very hard to restore a legacy of greatness that befitted A&T's tennis programs. We have a rich culture of producing renowned individuals dedicated to excellence. Nuria and Cielo are just a few examples of what is to come for us."

On Friday, March 24, Sanz and Tapia-Cruz clinched the doubles point in North Carolina A&T's 4-0 victory over CAA opponent Towson by defeating Sania Suchinsky and Nadeen Shrebti at the No. 2 position. The two teams split the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches, bringing the doubles point down to the No. 2 duos.

Sanz also improved to 8-0 in singles following a 6-0, 6-1 win over Erin Gray at the No. 3 slot as A&T posted its first-ever win over a CAA opponent and their first win over a conference foe since 2019. Tapia-Cruz earned her second career weekly honor after winning co-freshman of the week last season from the Big South Conference.

The Aggies return to action Wednesday, March 29, at 5 p.m., when they travel to Elon University to play CAA opponent, the Blue Hens of Delaware.
