Salmon, Hayles Earn CAA Weekly Honors

Hayles won three weekly honors during the indoor season.

EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T men's and women's track and field received their first weekly Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) recognitions on Tuesday when sprinter/hurdler Paula Salmon and sprinter Reheem Hayles earned honors. In addition, the conference named Salmon women's athlete of the week, and the CAA recognized Hayles as men's co-athlete of the week.

Salmon, Hayes and their Aggie teammates competed at Weems Baskins Relays hosted by the University of South Carolina over the weekend. Salmon competed in three different events, finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.31. The finish leaves Salmon ranked first in the conference, ninth in the East region and 11th in the nation in the event.

Salmon is a two-time All-American in the 100mh, including one first-team honor. Salmon also competed in the 4x100 with teammates Pebbles Scott, MyKayla Perry and Jayla Jones. The foursome finished sixth at USC with a time of 46.91. They are third in the conference and 64th in the East. Salmon also had a seventh-place finish in the 200 at 24.70.

It marked the first time Salmon has run the 200m outdoors since March 19, 2021. Salmon won one weekly indoor honor from the CAA during the indoor season.

After winning three weekly indoor honors and CAA men's track athlete of the year, Hayles won his first outdoor accolade this week. Hayles participated in the 200m and the 4x100. He won the 200m with a personal-best 20.71. He has competed in the 200m over the past two weeks despite never competing in the event during the outdoor season before 2023.

Hayles is ranked 10th nationally in the 200 while earning a No. 5 spot in the East and the top spot in the CAA. Hayles joined Shemar Chambers, Caleb Jackson and Brandon Nya to finish second in the 4x100 at 40.28. The team ranks 36th in the nation, 16th in the region and first in the conference.

The Aggies will compete in the Florida Relays, March 31-April 1, at the University of Florida before returning home to host the annual Aggie Invitational at Marcus T. Johnson Track, April 7-8.
