EAST GREENSBORO – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced its inaugural men's indoor track and field postseason awards on Thursday, with two North Carolina A&T Aggies securing01147_Hayles significant accolades. Junior Reheem Hayles captured CAA men's track athlete of the year, and teammate Jason Holmes earned the conference's men's rookie of the year.

Hayles scored 20.5 points at the first-ever CAA Indoor Track and Field Championships to garner most outstanding track performer. He won the 400-meter indoor conference championship in 45.99. He joined teammates Ryan Saint-Germain, Akeem Lindo and Shemar Chambers to win the 4x400-meter relay CAA indoor title in 3:09.82. In addition, he finished second in the 200m with a personal-best 21.02.

Hayles won three of the four 400m events he competed in during the season, including an indoor personal-best 45.95 at Clemson University's Tiger Paw Invite on Feb. 10. He finished the indoor season ranked No. 1 in the CAA and 18th nationally. Hayles had six first-place finishes during the season and won CAA male athlete of the week three times.

"Reheem is the definition of perseverance," said A&T's director of track and field, Allen Johnson. "He has a laser focus on being the absolute best he can be."

Holmes could further the tradition of great A&T hurdlers and sprinters. He finished the season with the conference's top 60H time, running a personal-best 7.69 at the Tiger Paw Invite. He ended the season ranked 17th nationally in the 60H, the highest national ranking for any CAA male athlete in any event during the 2023 indoor season. In addition, Holmes became an All-CAA hurdler by finishing third in the 60H (7.91) at the CAA indoor championships. He also ran the 60 and 20m during the season.

"Jason had a constant improvement all season that resulted in the 17th-best performance in the country," said Johnson.
