EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina State transfer Jada Griffin became a North Carolina A&T Aggie and made an immediate impact. Her addition to the Aggies women's indoor track and field team yielded postseason honors on Thursday as the conference named Griffin the CAA women's athlete of the year. s men's rookie of the year.
Griffin scored 22.5 points to also earn CAA most outstanding track performer at the indoor championships. The graduate transfer sprinted to the women's 400m CAA indoor championship, finishing at 53.57. She joined teammates Pebbles Scott, MyKayla Perry and Lucheyona Weaver to win the 4x400 title in 3:41.62.
"She goes out and has fun, and that's how she finds success," said A&T's director of track and field, Allen Johnson. Griffin also had fun in the 200m, finishing second at 24.19. Griffin also scored in the 60m with a time of 7.74.
Griffin ended the season leading the CAA in the 200m and 400m. She earned her 200m conference ranking by finishing fourth in 23.88 at the South Carolina Invitational on Feb. 4. In the 400m; she ran 53.03 at Clemson University's Tiger Paw Invite on Feb. 10. The 4x400 team also ranked No. 1 in the CAA with a time of 3:36.40 at the Tiger Paw Invite.
She ended the indoor season ranked 43rd in the nation in the 400m. Griffin won three times in the 400m and twice in the 4x400 during the season. The Aggies finished fourth at the CAA indoor championships with 71 points.
