NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES STORYLINES

  • Head coach Tarrell Robinson is in his 11th season. He is the program's all-time winningest coach with 197 wins. He set the record against South Carolina State after a 68-49 victory in Orangeburg, S.C., for his 192nd win.
  • Robinson has a 197-113 overall record and has made three NCAA tournament appearances, three postseason WNIT appearances, and won three conference tournament championships and four regular-season conference championships.
  • Robinson needs three more wins to become the third A&T basketball coach – men or women – to reach 200 wins, joining men's basketball coaches Cal Irvin and Don Corbett.
  • In addition, he has a 102-27 record in Corbett Sports Center. The Aggies 89-38 win against Mid-Atlantic Christian on Nov. 15 marked Robinson's 100th win in Corbett Sports Center, making him the first women's coach to reach the milestone.
  • The Aggies are coming off a 66-58 win at College of Charleston on Sunday. They are off to a 2-0 start in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) after starting 0-3 in their inaugural Big South Conference season a year ago.
  • The Aggies are off to a good start in conference play, thanks partly to 6-foot-3 graduate center Jazmin Harris. She is coming off a week where she earned CAA player of the week after averaging 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks on 15-for-22 (.682) shooting.
  • Harris leads the team in scoring (15.5 ppg), rebounds (9.2), blocked shots (1.9), field goal percentage (.559) and free throw percentage (.821). Based on CAA criteria, Harris leads the conference in double-doubles (5), and she is sixth in the conference in scoring, second in rebounding, third in shooting, and third in blocked shots.
  • Jordyn Dorsey is coming off an eight-point, six-assist performance. She is averaging 14.0 points in her last seven games, and Sunday marked the third time this season she has tied her career high in assists.
  • Four Aggies have recorded their first collegiate starts this season. Freshmen Chaniya Clark and Taliya Council started against Johnson & Wales (Dec. 10). Sophomore Laila Acox started against Cincinnati (Dec. 1), and Keona Curtis received her first start at North Carolina Central (Dec. 21).
  • The Aggies have a 592-577 record and need eight wins for 600 in program history.

SCOUTING THE MONMOUTH HAWKS

  • Monmouth is in its first season as a CAA member like A&T.
  • The Hawks competed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference last season.
  • CAA head coaches picked Monmouth to finish 10th, along with fellow newcomer Hampton with 43 points, and behind A&T, who was selected ninth with 58 points.
  • Four teams are 2-0 in CAA play, including three newcomers in Stony Brook, Monmouth and A&T. Drexel is also 2-0.
  • Monmouth's two conference wins came against Northeastern, a 54-49 win at home on Dec. 30, and at Delaware. On New Year's Day, the Hawks defeated the Blue Hens 80-60 in Newark, Del.
  • Lucy Thomas came off the bench to score 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting in 24 minutes of action. Bri Tinsley added 15 points and six rebounds. Tinsley is the only Hawk averaging in double figures at 13.8 points. Ariana Vanderhoop averages 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds.
  • Ginny Boggess is in her second season at Monmouth. Last season, the Hawks went 14-16 overall and 9-11 in MAAC play, making a 12-win turnaround that also included a seven-win improvement in conference play.

SCOUTING THE HOFSTRA PRIDE

  • Hofstra plays Elon Friday night in New York before hosting the Aggies on Sunday.
  • Hofstra comes into the weekend looking for its first conference win. The Pride opened conference play with a 77-65 loss at Delaware on Dec. 30. They followed that with a 67-55 loss to Stony Brook at home on Jan. 1.
  • CAA voted Hofstra to finish last out of 13 teams in the preseason poll. Rosi Nicholson was a preseason All-CAA honorable mention selection.
  • Brandy Thomas had 27 points and seven rebounds on 10-for-18 shooting from the field and 6-for-6 shooting from the line in the loss to Stony Brook. Thomas has two 20-point-plus games this season and scored double figures in nine of her last 10 games.
  • Thomas is the only Pride player averaging in double figures at 15.1 points, which ranks seventh in the CAA. She also leads the team at 8.8 rebounds per game, which ranks third.
  • Danielle Santos Atkinson is in her fourth season leading Hofstra. She has compiled a 25-66 record.

The Series

  • A&T will play Monmouth and Hofstra for the first time.

Quotable
"Monmouth and Hofstra are probably two of the most all-around teams in the CAA. They are solid on both sides of the floor. We will have to be on our A-game to get the results we want. This weekend is an opportunity to separate ourselves in the CAA standings."
