NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES STORYLINES

  • Head coach Tarrell Robinson is in his 11th season. He is the program's all-time winningest coach with 200 wins. He set the record against South Carolina State after a 68-49 victory in Orangeburg, S.C., for his 192nd win.
  • Robinson has a 200-114 overall record and has made three NCAA tournament appearances, three postseason WNIT appearances, and has won three conference tournament championships and four regular-season conference championships.
  • A&T's 67-63 overtime win against Northeastern on Jan. 13 gave Robinson his 200th career win joining men's basketball coaches Cal Irvin and Don Corbett as the only basketball coaches, men or women, to reach 200 wins. Irvin won 308 games and multiple championships at A&T. Corbett won 254 games and numerous titles at A&T.
  • In addition, Robinson has a 103-28 record in Corbett Sports Center. The Aggies 89-38 win against Mid-Atlantic Christian on Nov. 15 gave Robinson his 100th win at Corbett Sports Center, the first women's coach to reach the milestone.
  • Despite A&T's 69-52 loss to Delaware on Sunday, they remain atop the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) at 5-1 because Drexel, who came into Sunday's action 5-0, lost to William & Mary 74-58.
  • Delaware shot 54.5 (12-for-22) percent from 3-point range and 44.2 (23-for-52) percent from the floor. Delaware hit four 3-pointers over three minutes to turn a 28-22 Blue Hens lead into a 42-22 lead. The Aggies never recovered.
  • Jazmin Harris has scored in double figures in eight straight games. She leads the conference in field goal percentage (.522) and double-doubles (6), including three straight to start conference play. She ranks third in rebounding (8.8), third in blocked shots (1.9), second in offensive rebounding (3.5), fourth in field goal percentage (.522), fifth in free throw percentage (.840) and sixth in scoring (15.3).
  • Harris ranks in the top-50 in four categories nationally. She ranks 25th in total blocks (32), 33rd in blocks per game and 50th in double-doubles.
  • Maleia Bracone tied her career high with 10 assists at Monmouth on Jan. 6 to become the first Aggie to record 10 or more assists since Chanin Scott recorded 10 against Campbell on Jan. 31, 2022. Bracone's 10-assist game is tied for the fifth most in the CAA this season. Bracone's other 10-assist game came on Jan. 26, 2022, when she played for Presbyterian.
  • A&T ranks in the top-50 in seven categories. The Aggies rank 24th in offensive rebounds (15.2), 36th in rebounds per game (41.71), 42nd in field goal percentage defense (36.4), and 29th in turnovers forced per game (20.47).
  • The Aggies have a 595-578 record and need five wins for 600 in program history.

SCOUTING THE STONY BROOK SEAWOLVES

  • Stony Brook won its first-ever CAA game with an 89-61 victory against William & Mary on Dec. 30. The Seawolves got off to a 3-0 start during their inaugural CAA season with wins over Hofstra and UNC Wilmington before losing to Drexel.
  • Stony Brook bounced back with a 69-59 victory against Monmouth a week ago.
  • The preseason CAA poll predicted Stony Brook would finish third, the highest ranking of the four newcomers. Anastasia Warren earned preseason All-CAA second-team recognition. Gigi Gonzalez made preseason All-CAA honorable mention.
  • Warren leads the team and ranks third in the CAA, scoring 16.8 points per game. Sherese Pittman ranks fifth in the conference in rebounding (7.7) and averages 12.9 points. Gonzalez averages 12.1 points and ranks fifth in the CAA in assists at 3.9 per game. She also ranks fifth in the CAA in steals at 2.1 per game. Warren is averaging 19.3 points per game in her last seven games, including three games of 20 points or more. Gonzalez is coming off a 23-point performance against Monmouth.
  • Ashley Langford is in her second season leading Stony Brook. Last season, she led the Seawolves to a 23-6 record, including a 14-4 record in the American East. The 23 wins tied the 2021-22 for the fourth-most in a single season in program history. It was the most by a first-year head coach.

SCOUTING THE HAMPTON PIRATES

  • Hampton also won its inaugural CAA game with a 57-54 victory at Elon on New Year's Day. The Pirates won its CAA home opener, 56-50, against College of Charleston on Jan. 6.
  • After back-to-back losses to Towson and Drexel, the Pirates defeated UNC Wilmington, 38-34, before losing to William & Mary on the road last night.
  • The preseason CAA poll predicted Hampton to finish tied for 10th with newcomer Monmouth. Nylah Young earned preseason All-CAA second-team accolades.
  • Three Pirates average in double-figures. Camryn Hill leads the way with 13.8 points per game. Young leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game and averages 11.7 points. Madison Buford averages 11.2 points.
  • Buford is averaging 14.3 points in her last three games, but Hampton's top two scorers have struggled in the CAA. Hill is averaging 8.7 points, and Young is averaging 8.8 points.
  • David Six is in his 14th season. He is the program's all-time winningest coach with 255 wins. He led Hampton to six Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tournament championships and six NCAA tournament appearances. He also led the Pirates to one WNIT appearance and five MEAC regular-season championships.

THE SERIES

  • A&T will play Stony Brook for the first time in program history.
  • Meanwhile, Hampton leads the series with A&T, 26-16.
  • The Pirates are 8-3 in the last 11 matchups with the Aggies, but A&T has won two of the previous three.
  • In their final MEAC meeting, A&T walked away with a 72-65 overtime victory to win the 2018 MEAC championship.
  • Both teams won on their respective home courts last season in Big South Conference competition.

Quotable

"After a disappointing performance and outcome in our last game, we look forward to playing again and putting it behind us. We face a Stony Brook team that has a winning tradition. I'm really impressed with their guard play."

Head Coach Tarrell Robinson
