Baseball Has Several Players In Action Across Summer Leagues

Eight Aggies are competing across four different leagues this summer.

EAST GREENSBORO – Summer collegiate baseball is in full swing, and eight Aggies are competing across four different leagues up and down the East coast, with the possibility of more to come.

"Excited to see the guys get out and play in the summer," said A&T head coach Ben Hall. "This is an integral part to college baseball development as they put the wood bat in their hands, continue to get at-bats or get innings on the mound.

Since we are not permitted to work with our players per NCAA rules in summer, going out on their own and developing helps them learn to grow individually and learn how to manage their growth."

Reigning Big South Conference all-rookie selection and rising sophomore catcher Canyon Brown is playing alongside sophomore outfielder Shemar Dalton for the Greenville Flyboys in the Appalachian League. Playing in the same league is rising sophomore right-handed pitcher Jaheim Brown, who is suiting up for the Kingsport Axmen.

Dalton has been the summer star, seeing action in 22 games with a .303 batting average. He has seven extra-base hits, including his lone home run coming off of former Aggie Evan Demurias, who entered the transfer portal after the 2022 campaign. Canyon has played in 11 games, tallied eight hits with six RBI, and scored five runs.

Jaheim has appeared in four games and pitched 14.2 innings, racking up a 5.52 ERA and 14 strikeouts.

Three Aggies play in the Coastal Plain League (CPL), with junior infielder Cort Maynard and junior RHP Avery Cain competing locally for the High Point-Thomasville HiToms.

Maynard has three at-bats in three games played. He has a hit, an RBI and two walks drawn in that time. His teammate, Cain, has pitched 2.1 innings across three appearances and tallied a 7.71 ERA.

Redshirt freshman LHP Stirling Thomas is playing for the Wilson Tobs. Thomas has been a workhorse for the Tobs, making 13 appearances already and throwing 11.1 innings. In that span, he has accrued a 7.14 ERA with 14 strikeouts.

Freshman RHP Michael Crayton is competing in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League for the Mooresville Spinners, and junior righty Jake Delisi is in the Valley Baseball League with the Harrisonburg Turks.

Crayton has an 11.25 ERA in 4.0 innings pitched with eight strikeouts. Delisi has pitched 11.2 innings, has a 1-0 record, and has struck out eight batters in five appearances.

"It is a neat experience for them to get away from home, live on their own in a new town, and establish new relationships in the game of baseball," said Hall. "I look forward to seeing the guys back this fall three months more mature in the game."
