GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T lost for the fourth time in Big South Conference women's tennis as Presbyterian defeated the Aggies 7-0 Sunday evening at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. The Aggies are 0-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
The Aggies lost the doubles point after a forfeit at No.3 doubles and losses at No. 1 and 2 doubles. At No. 1, A&T sophomore Manuela Jimenez and senior Marlene Estenssoro Pineda lost 6-2 to Jessica Leeman and Claudia Sanchez.
Sophomore Florielvis Hurtado Pernaleta and freshman Cielo Tapia-Cruz lost to Zeba Jamal and Beth Lacey 6-2.
The Singles competition started with the Aggies forfeiting at No.6. The Aggies then sustained a loss at No. 4 singles as Estenssoro Pineda lost to Lucianna Piedra 6-0, 6-0. Jimenez lost at No. 2 as Leeman won 6-2, 6-2 for the match clincher.
The match continued with Hurtado Pernaleta losing at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3 to Zeba Jamal. Tapia-Cruz had a lengthy battle with Sanchez. She lost the first set 6-3 before recovering to win 6-2 in the second. She lost the third-set tiebreaker 10-5. Sophomore Trinity Oliver played at No.5, losing 6-2, 6-1 to Beth Lacey.
The Aggies travel to Durham on Tuesday to play against North Carolina Central at 2 p.m.
