Fowler Named Big South Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Fowler had a career-high 297 yards passing and four touchdowns.

EAST GREENSBORO – The Big South Conference released its weekly football honors on Monday with a new name to the weekly honor circuit. The Big South named North Carolina A&T quarterback Jalen Fowler as the co-offensive player of the week.

Fowler shares this week's award with Gardner-Webb quarterback Bailey Fisher, who had 408 yards passing and a touchdown, and scored a rushing touchdown in the Runnin' Bulldogs 28-14 win over Charleston Southern.

The Aggies signal caller also produced an excellent game in A&T's 38-14 win at Robert Morris University (RMU) on Saturday. Fowler had career highs in passing yards (297) and touchdown passes (4) on 19-for-30 passing. Fowler did not turn the ball over and has not thrown an interception in his last 65 pass attempts.

"I thought Jalen did a lot of things well," said A&T head coach Sam Washington. "One of the things he did well that we were hoping for is buying additional time with his feet, keeping his eyes downfield, and keeping both hands on the football. We wanted him to play basic, fundamentally sound football, and he did that."

The coaching staff's hope of Fowler buying time in the pocket came to fruition during the RMU game on Saturday. In the second quarter, the Aggies had the ball at their 48-yard line on a 2nd-and-7. Fowler took the snap and some pressure from the RMU defense up the middle as he was preparing to throw.

Instead, he tucked the ball, scrambled to his right, and found an open Bhayshul Tuten out of the backfield. Tuten caught Fowler's pass at the RMU 43 and ran the rest of the way for the touchdown. The score gave the Aggies a 23-0 lead. Four minutes later, Fowler dropped a beautiful ball over the left shoulder of receiver Sterling Berkhalter, landing the ball comfortably in his right arm for the score.

Fowler also had two first-quarter TD passes to graduate receiver Zach Leslie. Fowler has played in six games with four starts in 2022. He has thrown for 905 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception on 76-for-115 passing (.661) this season. Fowler leads the Big South in completion percentage, passing efficiency (156.3) and yards per pass attempt (7.87).

Fowler and the Aggies are back in action at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29, when they face Campbell for The Greatest Homecoming on Earth at Truist Stadium.
