GREENSBORO, NC – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University linebacker Donavan Frederick has been added to FCS Stats Perform's Jerry Rice Watch List.

His addition puts him in contention for the Jerry Rice Award, which goes to the top freshman football player in Division I-FCS. Other Aggies who have previously made the Jerry Rice Watch List include linebacker D'Vonte Grant (2011), running back Tarik Cohen (2013), and cornerback Mac McCain III (2017). Cohen placed ninth in the Jerry Rice voting in 2013, finishing with 72 points and four first-place votes.

Frederick, who transferred to A&T from Campbell University this season, leads the Aggies in tackles with 54 and ranks second in solo tackles with 29. He also has 3.5 tackles for loss, an interception, and three pass breakups. His best outing came in the Aggies' upset win over two-time defending Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) champion Rhode Island. Frederick recorded 12 tackles, including nine unassisted and three for loss, along with three PBUs. The following Monday, he earned Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week honors. His efforts helped the Aggies defeat 19th-ranked Rhode Island 22-18 at Truist Stadium on Sept. 26.

Frederick followed that performance with nine tackles and a key interception that kept Bryant from scoring at the end of the first half in A&T's 31-30 loss on Oct. 3. He also had nine tackles, including one for loss, in A&T's win over New Hampshire the following week. Two other CAA players made the list, including Stony Brook defensive back Khalid Bueno and Elon running back Kamerin McDowell-Moore.

Other HBCU players on the list include Bethune-Cookman running back Rashon Brown, Norfolk State quarterback D'Jean Golmond, Alabama A&M running back Bryon Perrilliat, and South Carolina State offensive lineman Jamarius Wilson. The Aggies are off this week, but Frederick and the Aggies return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, when they face the Elon Phoenix at 1 p.m. A&T will celebrate its 100th Greatest Homecoming on Earth.
