GREENSBORO — North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University football jumped back into the win column on Saturday with a 30-27 overtime win over the University of New Hampshire at Truist Stadium.
As a result, the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Football Conference and a national outlet recognized the Aggies' incredible finish and victory, awarding the program weekly honors. The CAA named junior quarterback
Kevin White its offensive player of the week. White became the first Aggie to receive that honor since A&T joined the league in 2023.
Freshman
Terry Radford secured Co-CAA Rookie of the Week. Radford also earned honorable mention for Stats Perform FCS National Freshman Player of the Week. White and Radford's performances helped the Aggies improve to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play. They also helped the Aggies win back-to-back home games for the first time since 2022.
White completed 18 of 35 passes for 230 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions on Saturday. He also ran 10 times for 38 yards, totaling 268 offensive yards. White earned the award on the strength of A&T's game-tying drive that started with 1:40 remaining in the game. He completed three fourth-down passes during the drive, starting with a 12-yard completion on a 4th-and-8 from the A&T 27-yard line.
He then completed a 5-yard pass to
Elijah Kennedy on a 4th-and-4 from the Wildcats' 40 before tossing a game-tying 19-yard TD to Kennedy on a 4th-and-10. In addition to those three crucial passes, White rushed for 33 yards on four carries to keep the chains moving. During the game, White completed passes to nine different receivers.
"People have talked a lot of junk about
Kevin White since he's been around here, but that guy is playing at a high level," said A&T head coach
Shawn Gibbs during his postgame press conference on Saturday. "He is playing as good as anybody in this conference right now, and he is making plays with his feet and his arm. He's a heckuva leader, and I'm super proud of him."
Radford stepped into the lineup for junior
Tyrek Brown and played superbly. The South Carolina native made 17 tackles, including 13 unassisted and one for loss. He made two tackles in overtime, helping UNH settle for a field goal that sailed wide right. Those stops set up freshman
Asher Holland to kick a 34-yard field goal to win the game for A&T. Seventeen tackles are the most by an Aggie this season and the most since BJ Turner had 19 tackles at Norfolk State on Sept. 30, 2023.
White, Radford, and the Aggiess will try to win their third straight home game this weekend when they face the Chicago State Cougars at Truist Stadium on Saturday at noon.
